Wake up! Time to fly!
Might wanna dig thru @willsonman threads. He designed a simple and effective 3d printed bomb release which would save you a snot load of weight vs a complicated release.

Nice progress too cant wait for the maiden. Are you planning a scale landing area with a 4 wire system to practice tail hook carrier landings at some point?

Thanks, I am VERY please with it so far. Made some good progress, tonight. The horizontal and vertical stabs are looking great! and have come together well. Next stop - Electronics

The big items on this we're pylons for removable nacelles. Allowing a switch out for larger EDF motors if desired.

Next step was the H and V stabs.
I tapered them with and iron, removed 1/2" of paper along the front, and cut grooves thought the inner paper widened with a fingernail, at both taper edges then I tapered the control surfaces. On the vert stab, I tapered the control surf. And rounded over the front edge. The vertical wooden stirrers got through the three layers of foam. A place to strengthen is to add an offset anchor layer, located At the end of the sticks. The V stab is set with a 3° dihedral. I need to make a gauge.

Now that it's put together (mostly), I can focus on electronics, and gear. This will be fun! Remember this still just sliding over the core

Today I've spent WAY to much time looking through GEAR. This plane required home made retracts.

I'm looking at the Gear, I went to the hobby store to grab some wheels and other supplies. I went with 3/16" aluminum tubing to fut over the 1/8" wire and act as a Sleeve/stop for the Springs.
I though this would go Quick, but the 2" rear wheels don't slide in easily like I hoped, so I need to come up with something else.I was thinking attach them to the bending piece, but that is harder to knuckle, than a straight stick. Eithrt Way, it's time to get it done.

For Nose Gear, I want to do something like this:

I have spent time mocking up and testing some of the retractable steerable nose wheel setups. I have found one I like and it's time to Manufacture it. I have some plastic sheet I plan to use for this.

Last night I mounted the rear main gear struts and they don't fit right with the wheels. Close. So I may exchange the rear wall for 3/32" FB. It might make the difference. I have decided to try plastic for Fast food soda drink cups for the doors. I have some door stay mechanisms to setup. Finally a use for those extra servo arms!

With all this I've been setting in the Servos attempting to keep them as hidden as possible. I used 1 servo for flaps. To create a tight guide, I rolled paper and pushed it throught the punch holes. These helped guide the pushrods (landscape wires) through.

Gear and wing mount next!

Right, I nearly forgot to include the updates on the Rocketry preperations, and attempts.
Fuel Testing:
Ignitor Test - idea 1:

There is more to come. I have 1 Pen Rocket fueled up, but I'm doubtful. Right now I need a Fuse to light it. Right now, I've just succeeded in melting the end of the pen, not launch it. Either Way, This is Promising. as it's the 4th, I may just pick up some commercial things to try ideas with.

Tonight I spend some quality time with project.
IMG_20200702_010200686.jpg
The other day I installed the rear landing gear. Next step for these is the bracing. It is critical these don't buckle on a landing.
IMG_20200702_011724411.jpg IMG_20200702_011710221.jpg
I have built the retractable nose gear mechanism.
IMG_20200701_200842746.jpg IMG_20200701_205558268.jpg
testing out and I made a little bit work before final but it functions just like i hoped. It locks in the up or down position. So should take the hard landings.
Steerable piece is generally easy and next.
Then I focus on the empanage. Adding servos linkages, band control horns. I'm using the flossing picks from the DT. (60/$) they fit the landscaping wire perfectly

I realize a small mistake. Can you spot it?
IMG_20200702_011604914.jpg
That's right... This piece is made to sit flush against the tail section and that control arm and pushrod are in the way.
U-Connect the elevators together. Cutting one groove will work.
IMG_20200702_011556659.jpg
Line it up and zero it out.
IMG_20200702_011627784.jpg

Last bits are install the aileron servos
IMG_20200702_011635934.jpg
Now it's starting to look like a viking S-3b.

I am excited to see this come together. I have picked up spray paint to get it right

Hey bro. Not sure if its camera angle or my eyes but it looks like the elevator does not move evenly on bot sides of the v stab. Id hate to see you give it a toss on a maiden and cork screw at launch. Its looking too good to be a sacrificial lamb first toss like my builds seem to be hehe.

I'll take a closer look.

Holly Cow. U R out doing us all on this one. I am interested as to how those Power Fun work out. I just did a quick scan on this thread, but will read it through latter. So far very impressed.

This Gear is what's holding me up. I have an Aft cone, I debated about getting a 12v retractable antenna for a car to put in and out the sonar boom out the back. I would LOVE to maiden it at FF. And if the printed parts come out like they should. I will be all set!
