Fopster's EasyJet in 6mm depron

I finally killed my FreeWing MIG 15 and was looking for something to put the electronics in, and I found this: https://forum.flitetest.com/index.php?threads/“easyjet”-simple-depron-64mm-edf.73989/
Just up my street, having built (but not yet flown) a Jetworks F18.
So I bought the plans, printed them and stuck them together, and now they are cut out and drawn around on the depron (just 2 sheets!). Hopefully cutting them out won't take long (the straight lines should really help) and then I can start sticking together. :)
I'm planning on using 3d printed leading edges to protect from knocks, but otherwise building to the video, using a 64mm fan and 4s (I had to upgrade the esc and edf unit in the MIG before it died).

Good luck with the build! I’m really missing not having one to fly at the moment - I took out the fan to try a 3d printed plane. Tempted to buy another fan so I can keep having an EasyJet around - so easy to fly it’s (for ma anyway) a really low stress way to enjoy EDF flight.

Spar epoxied in. Tape added.
I printed out some leading edges in PLA to try to avoid dinging the wings, but the curve at the end is going to be super awkward. On my F18 there is a pylon there, so I didn't have to deal with that. Am I over thinking? Should I just have a taped foam leading edge and get on with it?

This is in my queue to build but I've got to make adjustments for not having access to depron and will probably do the airfoil mod.

Two comments: #1 put pieces back in with glue. Wont see damage from Bakersfield where you're at. #2 Suggest either bbq skewer, music wire or CF leading edge to spread out the compression forces and make LE rounder

More progress. I did some of the inlet ducting out of order, because I don't have an exhaust tube yet, so I can't do the back bit.

I also did the tail feathers.

And this is it placed together.

I can do the hatch and the nose without anything extra, and I need to cut a new middle deck (or repair the existing one - it won't be visible, but it has to be sturdy because that's what the rudder and elevator servos sit on). I seem to be missing the top deck, which probably means I messed up when cutting the plans, but I'm sure I can wing it at that point.

Nose done, and deck repaired (with some carbon to ensure it doesn't come apart).

I ordered some acetate for the thrust tube, but I can't put the deck on until it arrives, so I think all I can do is the hatch, and then I will be waiting.

That’s looking great - much neater build than my prototype! I just crashed my 3d printed F16 (lost A control surface in flight…) and tempted to build another easyJet and put the fan back in that. Can’t decide on whether to do that or try building one as a delta wing.

Good luck for the maiden!

Looking good! As for me I am working on a scratch build (it is on the forum) and a FT Viggen (waiting for weather to calm down before painting) and a Profile Pitts S3C 3d Plane. Can't wait to see the finished result on your build!

Sorry to hear about your F16. 😟
It would be really cool to build one as a Viggen style delta. Especially if you could do moving canards! I'd buy plans for that.
PS the plans didn't seem to have a top deck? Not a problem, as it's easy to make, but maybe on the next revision?

Acetate installed, it's not pretty but will mostly be hidden. Need to decide whether to leave it as it is or to 3d print a better tube and wait a bit.

Also sorted the hatch fitment and gave it a red nose

Both tail feathers installed.
1000009965.jpg

Rudder and elevator servos and control horns installed, control horns and aileron servos linked.
1000009975.jpg

Top deck supports installed.

I also hinged the canopy on.
Things left:
Top deck (Inc guides for the tail controls)
Battery plate and CG.
Bungee hook
Leading edge skewers

It's absurdly light, with just the above to go, it weighs 460g (without battery).
