Trying something a little different.

Twin prop FPV bird.

IMG_4689.JPG
Reused the wing from the prev single motor plane.

IMG_4686.JPG
Borrowed the motors off the 48 plane so I'll have to re-use the wing and match it up with the FPV-1 fuselage.

7x5 static rudders and 18x5 elevator (10x3 moveable area).

Sub frame.

IMG_4691.JPG
Main fuselage is 24" long, while the booms are 20".

IMG_4692.JPG
10" props just fit. I'll most likely run 9x5 triple blades.

I hope to test fly this thing on Sunday.

Looks really good! It definitely looks tight with the 10" props, twin 3 bladders would look sweeter anyways. Gonna mount a pan and tilt too?

The issue with 3 blades is the snow on landing is a PITA.

No pan/tilt yet. I want to get the basics down.

Not happy with the wing either. Not forward swept enough was the explanation I got for having CG problems.

So I'll have to decide if I go with 48 or 60 ;)

Tonight I took a tip from Stone Blue and cut into my white wing.
It is now has a 48" span and a better forward sweep.

This wing is from the FT-Racer. I've just added a centre section to push it out and add the sweep.

I still need to re-work the FPV pod. I want to be able swap that gear from plane to plane depending on what/where I'm flying.

That looks much better than that other wing you love. I actually was gonna suggest the forward sweep like their Specter plane wnphen you made your comments. Looking forward to the video!

Next job will be to finish the covers off and start balancing the gear.

I have to also build a new wiring harness but may try and reuse the one I made for the YC-14.

Then I think I need some skis.

Ski's would be awesome! Did you see the ones that a kid sent Josh and the guys? The put them on the Super Cub, look pretty sweet. I think the flight vid was on their last Q&A video.

I've been running the $3 from HK on my Cub with great success.

I'll fab from up for this plane after I've done some test flights.

To cold and windy to fly today.

So I spent some time finishing off the new plane.
I need to build the wiring harness and minwax/paint.

FPV pod, poster board and some final touches.
IMG_8573.JPG

Battery #1 up front.
IMG_8577.JPG

FPV Pod which allows me to move it from plane to plane.
IMG_8578.JPG

Lock in setup.
IMG_8580.JPG

Rear section with battery #2. This helps with the balance.

Upside down.

I completed the wiring harness last night.

IMG_8613.JPG

Pretty simple job. 2 sections of wire joined in a X pattern.

IMG_8606.JPG

Neg from the 2 batteries feed the 2 esc. Ditto for the positive.

IMG_8609.JPG

I have a forward and rear battery on this plane. Really to help the balance and give me flight time.

1500g, minwaxed, skis added and balanced.

I need a taxi way. This is getting out of hand.
IMG_8614.JPG

Reused the skis from FPV-1 but made them beefier.
IMG_8615.JPG

Front ski is always a concern but seems to handle the test well.
IMG_8617.JPG

Switched the 9x5 since the 10x7 were rubbing.
IMG_8618.JPG

Rear skis.
IMG_8620.JPG

I did have to push the rear battery forward to balance the plane out.
IMG_8622.JPG

1500g fully loaded.
IMG_8630.JPG

Just need some paint and we are all set.

Maiden flight was a huge success today.
Was testing with the skis and well... they were removed on landing. Besides they slowed the plane down.

I did have to tape up the sub frame since when I'd land they'd get packed with snow.
IMG_8702.JPG

One of the big things I noticed in testing was how well the plane flew without the fpv pod but how adding the pod affected the balance.
Once I got the plane home and dried off I set the plane up without the fpv gear and with 2 batteries in the nose.
I then found the balance point on the wing. Which was way more forward then I'd through. Marked it.
IMG_8703.JPG

The two batteries are 2" back. Re-rigged all the wiring to work.
IMG_8700.JPG

Added some black to help. May need some other colours.

The 2nd flight with the FPV gear.
It was a little tail heavy but I've corrected that.

No lack of space in the plane but balance is key.
I'll know more today if the CG is better. I may still have to move the fpv gear around.

If all goes well today I'll be doing my first FPV flight.

D'oh got some repairs to make.

Lost orientation and rolled it over.
Boo. I'll have to add some colours.

The nose took the hit but I need to make some repairs to the wing as well.
Still not bad.

Not bad at all considering the depth of the lawn dart! And you just missed a tree! I'd say not too bad at all!
