FT-22... On Steroids

So guys, I have a predicament. I don’t have any metal gear servos for my thrust vectoring system, and I’m a little worried I’m going to strip my plastic gear servo upon landing because the prop sticks down a bit. Also, the ft-22 is kinda my “go crazy always and it doesn’t matter if you crash” plane, so I’m kinda worried that I’m going to be going through several servos... So I’ve already cut out the thrust vectoring system and want to incorporate it in a plane so my question is this - Do you think I should switch plans (again) and put my thrust vectoring system in my viggen instead? I’m kinda leaning toward that option since the viggen will be seeing a lot less abuse that the ft-22...

There you go. Took the belly pan off too. I remember somebody asking about wiring or routing. The 30a opto ESC is tucked in cavity on top of the wing with a seperate Ubec on the opposite side. Overkill, but I wanted practice soldering and it saved 6g😂. Hope this helps with your builds. Loving what you have going on here.

What I can do though if the weather is right mind you, is test the one I currently have with the Emax GT2218/09 motor in it and see how bad an idea that turns out?😂 if that doesn't move faster with a 9x6 prop I don't know what will. That's the one with the aforementioned rudder set-up, carbon fibre spars etc.

Is that the biggest motor you got?

Mine was flying on a 9x6, I might be looking at trimming it down to an 8"

Maybe the TV should go on the Viggen if you are using an EDF on it. Mind you landing gear and a smaller 3 or 4 blade prop might help like @Hai-Lee mentioned

Progress on the new wing this morning:

Back section of the wing, you can see the hinges for the elevons, all one piece through the hinges. I also ironed out the edges inside the prop slot instead of using tape to eliminate delamination and smother airflow

Front section of the wing is taped and glued on, just used tape on the underside, topside will get the KFm2 layer over it. You may notice I moved the Vstab slots out some and widened them. I don't think I mentioned it in V1 but I used double layer on the Vstabs there, you might see in in the post build pre-maiden pics of V1. I spaced them out further to scale, only about a 1/4" from the original.

Here I adhesive sprayed the KFm2 top layer on and using weight to let it set for a couple of hours. On V1 I placed the top layer on and pressed it down by hand for a couple mins, came back a half hour later and it came loose at the ends and edges a bit. I used a bead of glue smeared into it on the tips and TE, tape on the LE to hold it together. Not that it mattered I only got one and half flights out of it anyway. This one I will still use tape on the LE

Thanks for the pics. I think I’ll have a control horn connected to one of the rudders and then two more control horns on both the rudders connected by a pushrod. It doesn’t make much sense probably, but it will when I finish it and post a pic.

The viggen is going to be a pusher prop kinda like @Photo001 viggen, but mine will be a smaller 1808 motor. The motor will be mounted directly into the tv unit.

I see you widened them out, like half the size of the wing lol

All the electronics are in. You can see how I ended up installing the servos. I had the hooked up with a bit more up reflex this time, I really had to trim back in the maiden of the V1 to get level flight. I started at setting the pushrods 3rd hole from the end and I had lots of throw up but not much more down, so I moved the pushrods to the hole in the end and BAM! this thing will be doin inverted easy, and the roll is goin to be NUTS!

If I can get the nose figured out I might have this done by tomorrow evening and ready to maiden by Wednesday. I am so stoked on this one.

Due to the inlets tampered in I lost a little room for a 9" prop, plus I want to get the motor set a little closer to center to the wing. which takes away a bit more. So... I might just head into town tomorrow to get an 8x8 prop, that's right, a faster prop, and I could use it on the P-40 as well. This plane is goin to rock!

Just came across this thread. And Ironically after I built my Racer and before I maidened it I built and flew a mini F22.
But I built it to plans and used this motor with a 6x4 prop and a 20 amp ESC. Lots of fun to fly.

That motor is cheap, 5 bucks! even US dollars that only like $15 here... Hey Google, what's the current exchange rate? lol

Maybe I should do the mini - maybe at Flitefest a long withe the 2x or 3x one I hope to do for combat!😁

That's affirmative. On the third one now. Emax 2204 motor in it. Goes like stink. The mini is the one I reach for when I want a bit of excitement. Really good fun. The only niggle I have, on acceleration/thrust it wants to go straight vertical if you don't time the down elevator right. Great fun to play with in the wind too.

What if you put in a couple degrees of down thrust in? Do you think that would help?
