FT-22... On Steroids

It's just 9AM and the sun is out but it's already windy so the 22 will get sealed up today. I will glue on a couple camera mounts and polyurethane it before the maiden. I would like to keep this plane for awhile, 4-5 days of planning and building between 2 planes I would like to get more then 1 and half flights out of it.

Never got to try the knife edge. Rudder worked great though.

I think I made my control surfaces too big and the 9 gram servos were just flexing too much under the load so I was full up elevator and it wouldn’t respond...
Thats interesting. Do you think it was the servos or were the surfaces flexing?

Would you do the rudders on V5?

I think it was actually the servo arms. I’m using linkage stoppers and I had to drill out the holes near the top, which weakened them. Not sure if I’ll just put new control horns on or try it again with smaller control surfaces. V5 will definitly have rudder - it’s a great addition imo.

I am thinking smaller control surfaces with more throw. Set up the pushrod hole just like you did with the rudder, far out on the servo and close to the hinge on the control surface. You will get faster response from less drag from the smaller surface and get the same amount of control with the increased throw. In theory. Thats the way i set up mine. We will see in the maiden i guess

I’ll give this a shot

Sweet paint job! I was running in a 2215 c pack motor and a 9x 4.7 prop, so I’m not sure why it wasn’t as fast as yours. I’m glad I maidened it before painting😂
I know you said you like it tail heavy but that might be what hindered it some. You should flatten out the balance and put a 9x6 on it. Mine flew way different then yours, it wanted the speed to stay afloat. The majority of my flight was at 2/3rds throttle until I did some full throttle stuff for a minute or so.

She is wired and balanced, ready to tear it up, just like the P-40

Now the wait for a window of calm weather...
I'm lost for words. Those skulls....all around that's something I would be proud to hang on the wall teasing me to fly it. Ace job.
