FT Flerken ***Official Thread***

I got to maiden the Flerken last night and well I’ll just say it flew great, untill it didn’t…
I was running a 2212 2200kv motor, a 7x5 pusher prop, a 40A ESC (cheep from Amazon) and a 2200mAh LiPo battery.
I only have a video of the first minute which was mostly trimming it out and getting a feel for it and I loved what I felt,
It was fast and maneuverable but I could slow it down to a more manageable pace!
I did some loops and a few rolls, again no complaints there. But then out of the blue
Around 2 minutes into the flight the motor quit I said to my dad who was standing next to me “huh that’s weird I don’t have any throttle.” Apparently when I said it I sounded calm and in control but on the inside those where the last things I was feeling!
I was able to get it on the ground with just the landing skid falling off and opened the hatch to find a melted ESC luckily nothing else appears to be damaged

In conclusion
I love the Flerken I will be buying more proper electronics and getting this thing in the air hopefully soon!

Here is (hopefully) the link to the video of the maiden.

If that doesn’t work let me know.

How many cells did you battery have?

7x5 is too much for that motor and ESC. When that happens, the amps go up and you either burn out the ESC or the motor. Sometimes both. I’m assuming you’re using a 3s battery. This advice is doubly so if you’re using 4s, and not applicable if you’re using 2s.

I have a 3536 1300kv motor and a 50A ESC (2-4S) and a 9 x 6 prop from a 3D printed plane that unfortunately didn’t work out.
What are the chances this new setup will work without burning anything out?

I run that exact motor (cheap amazon one), esc, battery and prop setup on my FT P-40 swappable and have never had an issue with it ever. With that said I belive the p-40 is a bit lighter and I do live over a mile high (thinner air, bigger prop sometimes). If anything fly it for just a minute or two (not at full throttle), land and check both motor and esc for heat. I did find a 3536 1450kv with 9x6 test on youtube. It was 3s but only pulled 30amp @ 350watts. So I think a 1300 kv on 4s with 50amp should be okay. Good luck.
