FT Flyer: at 100mph

Can you get the original FT scratch build to fly that fast? Will it disintegrate?

Haha. Yes its possible (maybe haha). But the flyer would need alot of modification to make it possible. The standard build alone will fall apart at them speeds and in a turn forget it the flat plate wing will just fold right up, even at half that. To start i would in large the build to 150-200% to make it more stable. Then double up the flat plate wing to two sheets thick with a wing spar to make it super strong. But thinking about the over all shape of the wing would make me wonder how it would act tho and you would definitely need the aileron mod too make turns posable, thats if it even makes the turns without freaking out with its wing design... but over all i think it would probably not end so well but im allso one to try anything crazy

I would think it is highly unlikely that a FT flyer would hold up to this sort of stress. You would have to mod it so heavily that it would not be an FT flyer anymore. Planes are like tools, they serve a certain purpose and are best used for that specific purpose. The FT flyer is a trainer type of plane, mildly acrobatic in some ways, designed for slow to mid speed stable flight.

It would be funny to see one flying that fast but overall doesn't seem like a good idea based on its inherent limitations.

The wing its self really isn't meant for that kind of speed. The way the stock one flies is dependent on the wing basically acting like a big drag parachute, so it would have to be HIGHLY modified to work well under that kind of stress.

I've watched an FT flyer, built to original specs, violently fold in half at about 50-60 mph.

As awesome as that was, I'd have to say that without lots of upgrades, it's probably not toing to happen.

I made one with a inrunner from a 70mm edf. It was crazy, but it worked. I had no way to measure its speed :(It was probably 70 or 80 mph.
I did add some bracing with BBQ sticks so it took a while for he wings to fold, but they did.

So I think you could make the wing strong enough to take the speed. The real question is how much power would you need in that thing to overcome the flat wing drag to get you to 100. I think you'd basically end up with a flying brick and even though it goes 100, it flies like, well, a brick.
