Great Job on the Mustang! Two questions?

Hey Rasterize,
I Love what you have done with the Mighty Mini Mustang!!! I have two questions for you. The first is when I download your PDF the 8 1/2 by 17 inch that is the link to Dropbox it has the spar and underside of the tail over the bottom of the two main wings. Here is the printed screen of the page 2 of the pdf:

FT MM P51 Paul I pdf page 2 overlap error.jpg

Just wondering if it is on my side or if there is something you could do to fix it when I print it out?

I Love what you have done to the Mustang and would like to be able to print the page two of the pdf. Also you said in your comments that you were going to upload them in 8 1/2 by 11. I would love that also because then I could print them out on the letter size shipping labels and stick them right to the foam board.

I got the Cox version of the Miss America P51 Mustang when I was 12!!!

I loved that control line plane. It was one of the planes that I started with in this hobby and would love to decal one of the Might Mini Mustangs to look like the real racing Miss America P51 Mustang:

And yes I am that old LOL!!!

Great Job on the Mustang!!!

Sorry Rasterize, I figured it out when I started puttin the decals over the MMM Plans

Rasterize,
Sorry, I printed out the plans and the decals and understand now why the spar is located there!!! When I first looked at the decals, I didn't understand that those decal are the part of the wing where there is a single layer on the bottom!

Thanks again for all of your hard work on these Decals and plans!!

No problem Ron! I'm working on a Miss America Skin for the larger swappable size P51. I hope to have it ready by Flight Fest.

I hope I dig my way out of the Baby Baron skin sets in time to finish it. I'll eventually post some time after Flite Fest.

What to do with extra turtledeck skin?

Rasterize, working on mini mustang and it's looking beautiful! Thanks for the graphics! Truly awe inspiring work! Question: What do you do for the turtledeck? There are 2 printed graphics for each piece of posterboard. Do you use both or only the one that shows the complete US insignia? Do you layer them at all? Not sure where to go next and really could use some advice. Thanks!!

Hi Usafa93!
Short answer: Nothing. Use the one with the curvy sides that show the insignia on the fuselage. If you mess that up somehow, (hey, it happens to the best of us) you have a spare to use. You will have to cut the curves on your own.
Love to see some pics of your build! Good luck!

I love your work Rasterize! I'm looking forward to the Miss America Plans! Have I missed them somewhere?

Thanks TexMechsRobot! You have not Missed Miss America. The first version of the skins (my first full sized swappable skins) were printed and built at Flite Fest 2016. I was working on it in the FT video. I need to make some adjustments to get things lined up better. Unfortunately that one derailer of all things RC (life) got in the way! I have some time off in a few weeks and I hope to print and build version 2. I would really like to use it it an article on building with skins but that slows everything down. (pictures, notes etc) I have promised myself that I will finish this project before moving on to other things. :)
I hope. :( :p ;)

Fair enough! You'll get no pressure from me...

Besides the potential article, where will you post the final product when completed?

Good question. I have been using my own DropBox space but that is now very low. For quite a while now, I have been wanting a place to store and make accessible these files for people. I have hoped that FT would come to my rescue and offer up some server space just for people who create these unique pieces of art as I'm not the only one out there. Unfortunately, I don't think that is happening anytime soon. No fault of FT mind you, as it is not their responsibility to do so.
That leaves me with a problem with no obvious solution other than taking the cost and time upon myself which I have little to spare of either. I guess that means we just muck along as we are now, making due. Sorry, not the greatest answer if it is an answer at all.

It is a perfectly sufficient answer :)

However, I don't think I asked my question clearly.

When you complete this project, will you start a new thread or post the announcement in a current thread? I know you may have an article as well depending on other things.

Sorry about that, just dreaming I guess...

To answer your question, at minimum I will start a new thread. I will then post on the other threads (Old Crow, Bunny and Paul) with a link to the new thread. If I have the time and gumption I will do an article as well.

I finished the Paul I Mini-Mustang last night. What a cool looking skin! Thanks for the decal plans!

I had it printed on vinyl. My first attempt with the vinyl did not turn out so good. I originally peeled the paper and put the vinyl directly on the bare foam. When gluing it together, the hot glue melted the vinyl pretty bad. Hinges were impossible without the paper on.

The second try is a lot better. I just left the paper on. It looks pretty nice but it is a tank at 312 g. AUW (850 mAh 3S battery).

I figured it would be good to post some pics before the maiden. I think that if I ever do one again, I will use paper.

Just got back from flying this one. Wow. It flies really crisp and like a rocket. The wind gusts were pushing it around a bit.

I think I found my new favorite airplane. At least for the time being. Glad I did it in vinyl because I gently set it down nose first in a water puddle at the soccer field. Just threw it back up into natures dryer and no damage. I also cartwheeled it with no damage as well. Not sure that it is bullet proof but pretty close with the vinyl armor.
