FT Mini (overkill power)

Hey all, just a question from a noob, me and a mate bought electronics to build a couple of spitfires a while back...with no flying experience lets just say our beautifully made rc planes weren't looking so beautiful after there highly successfully maiden flights (about 10 feet)

after some research I have come up with the excuse that the foam board here in the uk is a lot more dense than the american "dollar tree" board so the planes are a lot heavier. even with the extra weight i would have thought they would have been a bit more successful then trying to throw a concrete block...but that was not the case so hey onto the next project.

...which is...

I have been looking at the minis for a while and the new mini trainer looks like it could be a contender, for its progressive learning curve and its simplicity to make (including using less of the more expensive English foam board)

so to get to the point my question for all you RC pros is what happens if I shove the im guessing over kill turnigy ntm prop drive 28-26amp 1200kv 285w motor with an 8x4 slowfly prop and 2200mah 3s in one of these minis? will I get an overkill uncontrollable speed demon or a lead balloon?...or will the extra weight of a larger motor and battery cancel each other out?

perhaps someone has already tried this? what was your results?

as you can guess id rather not spend money on buying new motors and batteries if I can help it.

Thanks :)

Your setup is perfect for an old fogey at full size. The battery is a little large but you will appreciate the 15+ min flight times(once you can keep it in the air that long). If your learning to fly you really should look at something trainer like. Something thats 3 channel, rudder, elevator and throttle. Old fogey is top of the list but the old speedster would do fine. Fly one of those till your sick of it and ready to fly inverted then build another warbird. I use that exact motor on a 8x6 apc prop, tons pf power, should pull your english foamboard just fine.
