Do it! Great fun, and FT's special foamboard with a layer of Rustoleum paint is no more susceptible to the schmoo than balsa and ply!I’d love to see a video of that too.
@JennyC6 you make it sound so easy I am tempted to jump there...
The hard part is weight. These engines are just shy of 60 grams a piece(Say an even 60 with a prop on). They will require some special attention to balance. You do drop most of your battery weight...you'll still need something but a small little 800mAh 2s LiFE pack weighs bugger all and runs 9g and 5g servos like a champ...but you gain that right back again when you fill 'er up full of fuel. And mounting the fuel tank right on CG is a really good idea in planes this small because otherwise the weight of the fuel burning off would take a beautiful flying plane and render it almost unflyable. I did mount my Spear's tank right on CG and I'll be doing the same in every Mighty Mini I build.
I think the larger planes will be a little more tolerant, though, so I may not be as picky about it on them.
They also need far more substantial wooden firewalls, as the vibrations from the engines would pull the screws right out of the foamboard itself no matter what you did. On my Spear I have a piece of wood on both sides of the firewall and it holds the engines nicely.
As for power...adequate, I'd say. A reedy like mine will pull somewhere around 45 watts at the prop on 15% nitro, probably about 55 on 24%(What I'm running). You won't set any speed records with them but they will fly a foamboard plane reasonably well.
Got a vid of today's ground run here. Nothing stands between me and maidening the Spear except the weather, and that's looking...tolerable. Overcast, mid 50s, 5mph northerly wind, just like today. Not ideal, but doable.
