It should make the nose stronger, as there would be another structural piece inside.

I opted to glue the firewall instead. Definitely looks better than having skewers on the side.

Did you just glue the firewall directly or add glue to the sides of the power pod and slide it in till it dries making sure to get the downthrust right? Just curious.

I glued it directly on the front. I cut a piece of plywood larger than the front hole (where the powerpod was suposed to slide in) and applied epoxy on the margins.

Thanks, I may have to try that.

For reference. Keep in mind that I still haven't tested mine, as I've decided to use a larger motor and it hasn't arrived yet.

Thanks for the pic. I will have to see how my motor sits so the spacing is right regarding the prop being about 1/2" form the plane. I am using a slightly over sized motor that came out of an eFlite P39 Aircobra. That plane was fast and lots heavier. Should really make the P47 rip pretty good on 4S. Heck 3S may be enough with that motor. It is a pretty big motor so it may have to be recessed inside the plane a bit like in the build video. I already had to modify their motor mount to accommodate the bigger spacing for mounting screws. I do have another piece of ply that is bigger in case I want to do like you did. I will have to see when I get that far in the build. Thanks for all the pics.

I got my p47 laser kit and have it all assembled. Here are a few pics of the build. I have since spackked it up to clean up some of the seams and joints and have it ready for paint. I'm in the middle of another paint project and will get it done when that is complete. Has anyone figured out how to install landing gear on this thing? You would need monster hands to launch this plane when on hand is on the receive rand the other hand is trying to launch.

There seems to be some squares marked on the bottom of the wing and there were some random squares in the laser cut kit I bought. I assume those are for the landing gear. The extra pieces of foam are probably reinforcement. I thought about gear but realized it would not look right making passes with the gear down. You are right it is massive to hand launch alone. I just figure it will only fly when I have someone to launch it for me....at least until I figure a way to do it.

Actually it's not so hard to hand launch. I hold it from above in front of the canopy and launch "under-arm". Seems to work ok for me but may not be right for you. Different strokes etc.
Good luck!

Hi there, I have just started working on my scratch p-47 with some ambitious plans like having both ailerons, flaps and retracts :)

I bought those cheap ebay retracts and landing gear legs and decided do model and 3d print mounts for them.
I want them placed as forward as possible and angled, heading little more before CoG, when landing gear is down.
So far, it looks like no additional changes to the model will be needed (except of cutting a proper hole for the gear and mount.
Mount will fit in between those wooden bars that wil also serve as a support for mount struct and will be nicely hidden in a wing with no parts visible out of the wing .

I am only a little bit sad that I need to use quiet small wheels, they will probably not look so cool and scale.
Still, if I cut through that foam bar, made a bigger hole, maybe I could youse at least half inch bigger wheel.

I could provide both openSCAD and STL plans if anyone interested, i believe those mounts could be useful for all different kinds of FT models :)

How did the retracts work??? I could use the stl files , thanks, Chuck

Thank you, Is there a right and left one?
I think I have it figured out how to add the fixed gear. Now I might save up to get retracts, Which retracts did you use??

Here’s my P47 .....a few more finishing touches (decals & mount the canopy) and then it’s ready for the maiden crash😳
My modifications:
1) canopy is moulded fron Petg ..my first attempt at form moulding
2) the wing leading edge and tips are finished with a 3d printed edge in hopes to protect them from damage in transport and landing
3) all trailing edge on wing, elevator, rudder and ailerons have a balsa strip
4) I originally had retractable landing gear and tail gear, but ended up removing/cutting them out as they where to far back on the wing.
5) the wing is removable. I implemented a wedge on the front with a nylon bolt at the back of the wing to secure it in place.
