I've been putting off addressing this for a while, because I've been pretty busy with life and builds lately. I have a FT radial 1806 that I plan to use soon and FT radial 2205. Had them both a while, but started using the 2205 a few weeks back. The shaft is too long to fit a prop snugly, and there is plenty of loose space between the cap nut and the propeller because the shaft is abnormally long compared to the one on the 1806, which fits snug. The dimensions are obviously off, I understand that to keep the products cheap and accessible the manufacturing has to be outsourced so maybe a lapse in quality control? I'll get some pics when I go out in the garage to work on planes. I was able to put a couple funky little washers on it and get it working, and have been running it on one of my planes for a bit now with no issues, but it is sort of annoying. Anyone else have this problem? Should I try to send it back even though I've used it, or should I try to take a hacksaw and file and sand pager and cut it down and smooth the end?? What is the best option?
I'd really like to use FT 2205 radials for my upcoming dash 8 project to support FT and because I want some products from the FT site anyway and it would be easier to get my motors here too, but I'm worried I'll get the shaft again. I can always use Graupner 2806 Ultras, they are the same price and similar performance though...so what would the best option be?
