I've tried several variations of "FT Simple Scout XL" on the store, and I cannot find it, now. Anyone else?

Please Look at post 394. I tried to copy/paste the post with no luck. There was 20 kits to be sold on this past Saturday at the open house. The kit does come with the wheels. I got a chance to fly the Scout XL on Saturday. ;) Maybe send Wes B a note about the Scout XL. He is in charge of the store.

Now that my scratch build is complete I will focus on building my Scout XL.
I have started it already and need to think of a creative finish in case it ends up sitting next to Willsonman’s Scout.
I love all the different versions….thanks Sponz.
You know…..she doesn’t look half bad at the right angle….

Hey all, this might seem off topic, but…

Has anyone ever tried a SunnySky V series pancake motor on a Flite Test plane?

It’s kind of like a rotary engine from the WWI days…. It might look awesome.
I know it will have a low kv (not a bad thing), and the mount is odd, as it’s for a multi rotor.
It would be quiet, save energy, fly scale with lots of pulling power as opposed to speed. I think it might look and work well on the Scout XL.

I just wonder what the equivalent size of V-motor would be,

compared to power of the 2814-1100?

I looked at some pancake style motors for my build. They have good torque and low kv so you can swing a big prop pretty efficiently. I find picking equivalents to be difficult because FT lists basically no motor data and the SunnySky V motors only have specs for 4s and up with prop recommendations based on quad usage.
I opted to go with a more typical brushless outrunner because I could find enough relevant data on them. If I had more disposable income I would buy a couple different motors and try them out.
If I had to take an educated guess, it looks like the V2806 on 4s would fly the Scout XL, but... -shrugs-

Those Sunnysky "V" motors are listed at ecalc: https://www.ecalc.ch/motorcalc.php
It's a great tool to plug in weights, etc. of the airframe and details about your proposed power system. It'll give you an estimate of runtime, power consumption, and airspeed based upon your inputs. There is a free version, but I find it well worth the few bucks a year to get access to the full list of data.

Soo... To illustrate the power of eCalc I'll post an evolution of my ScoutXL here. I was running the numbers again because "the need for all things stupid"...

I knew that the airplane was well-powered. given the wing area, weight, and thrust I was getting on my 13x6 scimitar prop.

375W is a respectable amount for this lightweight. Check out the bottom right column, 9.2 oz/ft^2 and a cube load of 4.0 are LIGHT numbers. 130W/pound is nearly to 3D aerobatic type power and beyond sport flying power ranges. Now all I want to do is make two changes. Prop and battery...

NOW WE'RE TALKIN 176W/pound is STUPID power for ALL the dumb things... and I had an 11x6 prop in my drawer and a 2200 4S pack in my case.

It's this kind of empowerment that comes from running the math. If you do a lot of building this is an invaluable tool and worth the annual fee. As with ANY model, this is a good STARTING point and not to be taken as gospel but you get the idea.

You were flying it on 4S, FYI. ;)

Two 3000mAh 4S in parallel, to be precise. :D

And yes, I remember my throws were too small :p
HA! Fun to know. Any idea of the Power output? Curious how it will compare. Weather looks to be terrible coming up so I still have to try my hand on mine on 4S.

ATTENTION!!

Flite Test has graciously given us access to a tent area to use on Thursday and Friday (6/23 & 6/24) from 7:00 - 10:00 PM during the Flite Fest event. If you are coming to Flite Fest and planning to participate in the Dawn Patrol event, please come and join us. There should be room for folks to build/finish their WWI models, meet other participants, check out other models, ask questions, or just hang out and have fun. There will be build tables and power/lights in the tent. Those looking to build will need to bring or borrow tools and equipment as none will be provided. Friday night we will likely do the voting for the People's Choice awards.

At this point there is no plan for an instructor led group build of the FT Simple Scout XL. However, there will be several people (myself included) around to help you with questions or assistance if needed.

Nice! 😃. Love the livery!
How did you attach the cross bar to the landing gear struts at the bottom. I did that on my FrankenFlier, but totally Geri-rigged it. Maybe I missed this on an earlier post. But what is your technique?
