I know we're all waiting for the XL plans, but posting at 01:07? You gotta get some rest, man.

I did a riff on this landing gear design for my Simple Stick to solve a couple of challenges. First, any vertical load wanted to drive the gear up in the fuse, and second, they wanted to squat out. So I added a base plate to spread the load and also added in some small diagonal wires to keep the gear from squatting. One slight change from the Simple Scout to the Simple Scout XL is the addition of the plywood/printed main gear support plate sandwiched in between the foam main gear tab. Construction for the gear is identical to the FT Tutor, so you can watch that portion of the build video for that.

Not going to attempt to design in any feature for a removable wing at this point. I'm sure folks who want to work that out can come up with something and will gladly share that info here. What are the options on making the wing removeable? For those who don't drive a larger vehicle or have access to a trailer size matters!
I guess depending upon where you put the receiver you could have the aileron Y connector on the top of the wing with a "door" to be closed when you insert the wing and then "open" to connect to the receiver. Not going to attempt to design in any feature for a removable wing at this point. For my Scout XL that I will bring to Flite Fest, I will likely build it up to the point of wing install and then jest do the final assembly on site. Should be much easier to transport that way. I doubt mine will make it back home in one piece.
I flipped mine so that the top was removable from the wing up. The turtle deck covered is part of the removable cover. What are the options on making the wing removeable? For those who don't drive a larger vehicle or have access to a trailer size matters!

Watch my pictures earlyer in this thread (page 3).What are the options on making the wing removeable? For those who don't drive a larger vehicle or have access to a trailer size matters!
Will the plans be available in full size? Found a printer who is reasonably priced.
With permission from Flite Test, and the blessing of @wilmracer (Carl Lydick) and @willsonman (Joshua Orchard), I am scaling up the FT Simple Scout to a scale that should make it fit quite nicely into the 1:6th scale for the Flite Fest 2022 Dawn Patrol. I know that the Simple Scout is a fictional aircraft, but the point of this challenge is to include as many folks who want to fly in the Dawn Patrol as possible. For the Gotha Gaggle at Flite Fest 2016 we had 32 planes flying together. I'd like to see even more for the Flite Fest 2022 Dawn Patrol. To that point, the Scout XL is meant to be a easier point of entry to join in on the fun. Not everyone is up to the challenge of scratch building from balsa plans. Maybe you do not have that kind of time. With the Scout XL you can build a plane that looks the part or a WWI fighter, but with the ease you have known and come to love with building a Flite Test design. In fact, you can use the FT Simple Scout build video to build the Scout XL with very little deviation.

The Scout XL has a wingspan of 58 inches and is approximately 155% scale of the FT Simple Scout. This size was chosen to fit the 1:6th scale requirement of other similar size WWI planes of the era, and also to accommodate the 20 x 30 inch foam board build medium.
The power requirements I am shooting for for the Scout XL are the Flite Test 2814-100 kv motor and 40 amp ESC (links below).

The plans are roughly 80% complete. I expect to have them released on or before February 20. @Mid7night (Ben Harber) has already built a beta version and should have a test flight in soon. I expect to start my build next week and @willsonman (Joshua Orchard) should be building a beta version as well. I will provide additional details in this thread as the build progresses.
This is the usual practice from Sponz. They were in the prototype set so I'd imagine that yes, they would be included along with the tiled plans. Will the plans be available in full size? Found a printer who is reasonably priced.
Yes. These will be official Flite Test plans. Will the plans be available in full size? Found a printer who is reasonably priced.

It’s a matter of it is easier to use the altered plans so one does not have to adjust score cuts and fold lines on the fly due to the fact that while the plans scale, the foamboard itself does not change. The plans are already available?? Isn't this just a rescaled aircraft that ALREADY exists??

I know your not done with your build, but what is ETA right now for plans? The plans are roughly 80% complete. I expect to have them released on or before February 20. .
Still shooting for Twosday (2/22/22) a.k.a. tomorrow.I know your not done with your build, but what is ETA right now for plans?
