Ok so guys I would like to build this, but I would use a .40 ASP on it.. would that work? It's really the only way I can build it. Or I spend the same amount on a suitable motor without an ESC
That is a petrol engine right? Foamboard doesn't like petrol, but if you don't have another option, maybe it is possible, but you have to make the foamboard petrol and vibrations resistance.

Perhaps not but the vibration surely does. I’ve personally never seen this and then it dawned on me… I’ve got some glow fuel sitting in my caddy. Started a test and I’ll report back after a day or so.

I’ve made a wee bit more progress on my Scout XL.
to start off I’ve added some guns I had laying around. They are Williams Brothers 1/6 scale and seem to do the job well.

Not totally satisfied I felt the fun can’t just stop there so I added my 3D printable bomb drop and German style bomb since the guns are British. Everything fit just fine just aft of the landing gear and slightly forward of the CG for the bomb carrying position. This weighs very little so I’m fine with the penalty. Just a touch of additional programming for the release and it’s all set.

Thank you SPONZ for all your hard work on our behalf. I don’t know you but the admiration of those in this thread speaks volumes.
I am going to build one of these to take to FF 2022 in honor of your efforts, along with my 1/6 scale Fokker DVIII. I am sure it will look a lot better than what I end up with on my scratch build. It is all for the fun of the hobby.
Thanks again my friend.

Make sure to put the proper bullets in the proper weapon.
Seriously, nice improvements.

That thing looks fantastic! Definite whiff of steampunk about it. Great fun!

It won't hurt it. The only thing that needs to be done is to add some structure to the foam for the engine to mount to, and some wood braces on the foam, along with fuel proofing the airframe. The best way is to cover the plane with ultracote or something of the sort, and then fuel proof the area around the engine

I feel like by the time you add structure and fuel proof the airplane, you may as well have built a more robust airplane from balsa anyway. The whole point of foam board is simplicity and cost. I’m a scientist so I prefer to try things out myself to “reproduce the data set” when someone makes a broad sweeping claim. My thought here is, if the fuel does not harm the foam… it’s foam… why do you then need to fuel proof it? Oh yeah… paper 😏. I’ve been preaching for years now that the best foam board is the kind without paper on it.

agreed. the foam that i use is paper less. but i do have some nice thin ply and balsa that i could reinforce it with.
but no i will not fly a complete balsa plane:ROFLMAO:

Awesome build! Question, did you print the rotary engine? Or can we buy it? Really cool I want one!
