Ever since the 100MPH under $100 episode was released we received many requests for the FT Speedwing design. While it's not a step-by-step tutorial, I hope the dimensions, parts list and photos will help.

It looks a little rugged here. We added lights and flew it in the dark. Eventually it hit the ground.

One 2 FLY
My only concern with this set up is how long will the motor last running on 4s? Because its rated for a 2-3s.

Yea i noticed that as well. The motor I suggested would have the a little more RPM on 3 cells compared to the motor tested on a 4 cell. so that would help in the longevity of this plane but have more power but not pushing it to its limits.

Thanks. I am itching to fly but it is going to be VERY windy here in Indiana for the next few days. I will post some vids ASAP. they will be just general slow flight till i get the motor, ESC, and batt. I have a spare piece of foam board waiting just in case the maiden flight goes bad LOL.

I would like some ones opinion on a few of motors i have found:

Any suggestions?

At my experience level it is tough to watch a plane at 100 mph. I can't imagine trying to fly one. ;)
I did see one over at rcfoamfighters the other day that topped 140 mph. Blink and it's gone!

yea it is unbelievable how fast some of these planes can go. Still itching to get my maiden flight. now instead of it being to windy, it has been raining for the last 2 days :(

399? Really?

Somebody, call Mythbusters!

Seeing it on YouTube with today's video creating abilities leaves me a bit skeptical. Reminds me of the liquid mountaineering video I stumbled across. If you haven't seen it, it's good for a laugh.

LOL Im watching them now! To me it seems to be a ligit video. 99% of the time you can tell when there is some "funny business" going on in the videos.

So you mean when someone says "It flies like it's on rails" they really have them on rails but you just don't see them? LOL :D

How can you know that it is 99% of the time? That statement assumes you know of both the ones that have and have not fooled you. How can anyone know about the ones that have fooled them? (unless of course someone else clues them in)

But for argument's sake, what are the physics that propel a plane to nearly 400mph? If the wind was only going 45mph, can it really push a plane faster than that? Gravity will accelerate to those speeds but that is in a free fall with lots of altitude, not what we are seeing. If this really happened then there is an explanation for it.

The only plausible lines I can think of have to do with tornado generation. I have to think this through some more though.

This will explain it better than I can: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sailing_faster_than_the_wind Even though this is for water/land it is the same principle on how they work. Im not going to post BS when i know what i am talking about. Im not that type of person to steer someone wrong and tell lies.
Thats how they go faster than the wind. Plus they are Aerodynamically more efficient than other airplanes which make them "slip" through the air. i wasn't saying "I can tell" but mostly EVERYONE can tell when something is up.

Also gravity only pulls at 32 ft per/sec per/sec or M/S2 "which does not include the air resistance that the object will occur" until the object has meet its terminal velocity which is the top seep that that object can go. Due to weight and wind resistance these would not fall at 400 mph but at around 230 mph.

hope this will teach you how they work. Your welcome ;)

Well, just finished my maiden and second flight and all I can say is........ AWESOME!!!!! Even though i only have a small c20 test motor that came off my 3d Hawk, it still few flawlessly. I cant wait to get the other motor and really FLY. I will have my wife film it the next time i go to the park. It wont be fast but it will still show it in action! I can now say this is my favorite plane so far!

Yes, it has been a little while since this thread has seen any activity but it will soon hope to see more. Now that I am working again the fun can start again. Still looking for that "perfect" motor but I believe I have finally found one. So i will be placing a order for it and an ESC so hopefully i will have some videos to upload soon. Just need it to warm up a little first. lol
