FT Spitfire Build

I just received the FT Spitfire as I could not wait for the revised version. When I met Josh at FliteFest west he said it would be several months before v2 is available. The order included a power pack C and battery but I noticed that the motor, an Emax Grand Turbo GT2215/09, takes a 3S battery but the battery that I received is 4S, Hyperion 4S, 2100,mAh

I don't know why they are doing 4s batteries now as they started out with the 3s
I fly with 3s and they fly great and I really don't want to go to 4s as the expense and I have a few 2s and 3s just sitting around because I don't fly that size any more.

I thought the GT2215/09 is not rated for 4S - only 3S?

I have motor Scorpion SII-3014-1220KV 129gr. Not too heavy? With 4s2p lio-ion 6000 about 400gr and prop 7x6. I want a high-speed birdie, but also that remained maneuverable. as you think with such setup will fly normally?
I read on a MPX Dogfighter put the motor weight 140gr, and it wingspan only 88cm.

Hi all,
Just finished reading all 147 page's and what a great read it was, stunning builds and lots of great info.
I just recently got into the hobby over the winter so not flown too much as its been windy for months, but built the FT spit a few weeks ago, have flown it twice now and fly's perfect, couple of clicks of down trim and fly's by itself.

I used the electics out of a hobbyking Tuff trainer2 and seems plenty powerful, was flying with less than half throttle most of the time and launching with just over half, not dared to go full throttle :)

Not painted yet but will do as soon as i have time, could not upload a picture as it kept failing, here is a quick flight from the other day :)

If you take a picture from farther away then crop it creates a smaller file and it will normally let you upload it.

nice flight and if you build another one use the method they use on the mustang and put landing gear on it.
If you can keep your grass fairly short then 2" will work well.

Thanks Morgan, will give it another go.
Cheers Ron, i was thinking of just making another wing and trying to install some retracts, but going to put this to the side for the time being as playing with a high wing for now and will give me time to paint and do any mods.

...could not upload a picture as it kept failing]

A method I use (my phone takes 2.5MB pics... too big) is to open it and take a Snip of it (using the snipping tool) Snip.JPG
avg pic size after is 165kb

nice job and you will love the way it flies
the next spit you do put landing gear on it like the mustang and with 2 in wheels it will take off of short grass

Thanks Ron, I plan on adding retracts and maybe flaps on the next build, am going to pick up a box of foam board on Monday so will start on it next week.
Think i enjoy the building as much as flying, maybe even a little bit more :)

I'm almost finished my second build, it's been modified a fair bit and is weighing in at a massive 900g without battery, so it may not fly :)
I've installed retracts and built a solid fuselage out of hobbyking 10mm foamboard and sanded it into shape, added some durafly spit parts as they are only a few quid.
It's a bit rough as it started out as just a mock up to see how easy it would be to shape, then decided i may as well see if it flys.
The wings are made from some old ones i was practising with before building the kit i had previously put together, so were not in the best shape, but all went together ok and CG seems good.
Ive put this motor https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-aerodrive-sk3-3536-1200kv-brushless-outrunner-motor.html and a yep 60A esc in it and then will use 4s if its needed.
Here it is so far just a few things to adjust then off to the paint shop :)

My mk2 had its maiden flight last night, it fly' but is too heavy and needed to fly fast, which made landing a tad more difficult, unfortunately a gust tipped it over on landing and snapped the tail off and half the fuse :(
All fixed tho and removed the landing gear which has removed a fair bit of weight, so hopefully will fly better next time
