FT Spitfire simple approach

Hi I'm trying to build lighter
This looks great, cutout side panels and top only use 9" on a piece of Ross foamboard. The rest is so easy I'm making it up as I go. Bought 14 of those 9g servos.

You'll see wing is 9.25" chord make it any way you like, bottom stops at aileron. See the pdf file.

In trying to simplify pdf to jpg full size I'll try including the wing as jpg file too. The top half moon pcs supporting hood and aft can be guessed or I'll post later when I build.

I'm using a suppo 2217 either 950 or 1200kv motor

Members have sure come up with much finer projects than mine, I'm aiming for simple, quick, light, and using Ross foamboard, no heavy stuff, AND I like participating and hearing from yall...Professor Fate

Push the button, Max!

Never built anything so frail and light

Going good

Do all yall really only do paper joins?

In this one I put a 1/8th dowel in the elevator

Dowel works but bamboo BBQ skewers are lighter. They are not straight but just put them flat on the foam and glue

I just use a strip of medical tape to reinforce - current one says 3M Micropore inside the roll also have used the fiber tape. And just run a bit of glue where you added the dowel - keeping hinge deflected till dry.

Hello, thank you for joining me here.
Well this is the absolute lightest building I've ever done motor 2.5 oz esc 2 oz ? Lipo 2.6ah 7 oz 11.5 oz?

AND trusting Ross foamboard and paper hinges and those 9g servos.

Danskis, do most yall really only put foamboard spars or reinforce with wood like master series planes?

Thinking of squared wings little more area less stalling along with 10 deg dihedral....

....was thinking would this fly in wind better 7.5 to 8 degrees and square wing may be enough compensation for stability. Going to be 42Ws and glue wings to fuse adding strength for wings.

Want to build DH2 as nimble monoplane

Smoke BBQ last year, I love it in cold weather in the quiet night.

32.3 oz spitfire with straight wings ws 44"
Needs paint, battery cover, bottom covers, wire linkage

Remember those ft videos where the power pods fall out?

In the nose picture you'll see where two 3/16" dowels are glued between paper with gorilla glue; will be tied through holes around firewall cooling vents both sides.

If left without canopy, this would look like a Hanger 9 "Stick".

Oil based minwax if painted???

Guessing 950 kv suppo 2217 with apc 10x6 about 32oz thrust 3s 2.6 ah lipo

What's your spitfire weigh?

Might tie both sides

Power pod will never fall out

What's yours weigh and what is your power system motor stator size and kv , battery, the prop

Mine is suppo 2217 950kv on 3s 2.6ah lipo with apc 10x6 pulled 16 amps est 42oz thrust

And it's 32oz now before painting and oil based minwax and a few things

Might finish at 37 oz?

10300 rpm w apc 10x6 low est 53 oz thrust

I'm going to test again n make sure I got 10k with an apc 10x6 on 2217

OK without extra testing numbers sound right 11v x 1000kv is 11000 ...
Losses 10 to 15% are close to 10k and tested on fresh charged battery

spit1.jpg

This Spit weighs 28oz.
2835 1200kv motor
10X5 prop - the field is at 5500'
3S 2200 lipo
30 amp esc
3 servos
Oil based poly with rattle can over it. (you need the poly to keep the paper from bubbling)

Foam board, balsa, BBQ skewers

I just guess at the dihedral although its probably less than the plans call for.

The best hinges are taped on top - I've used blenderm, scotch super grip tape and packing tape. Then hot glue the paper from the bottom. Be sure to wipe off as much hot glue as possible immediately.

I glue bbq skewers to the foam spars so the wings don't fold. Ask me why (hint: this is my 4th spit)

For the elevator you want the holes in the control horn right over the hinge. That dowel might be in the way.

I use the bbq skewers on the horizontal stabilizer to keep it from warping not as a hinge.

I use a small diameter, u-shaped wire to connect the two sides of the elevator

I iron all my edges to make them harder and to form a better bond with the paper.

I don't build particularly light so there are probably some opportunities for you to lighten up your next one.

Has anyone ever built a Fokker DVII and used Grimms Seven Swabians.

What about the scary monstrous rabbit from the twilight zone movie with seven terrified swabians?

Or a huge Bugs Bunny against Elmer Fudd, Marvin Martian, Brown Hairy Monster, Daffy Duck, Foghorn Leghorn, Yosemite Sam, and Edward G Robinson

Or a bunny or monster vs a bunch of the usual catoonized celebrities you saw then

Love these old airplanes

Thank you Danskis

Someday I'm gonna have to build something that's scale and looks good...still need to test fly Savage Bobber and make decal pilots

I have proved something to myself about light strong building, used wood spars 5/8 tall from some 1/4 Luan 44 inch wing 9.25 chord all only 9.5 oz just needs ailerons cut hinged poly and paint. Ross foamboard all gorilla glue except hinges

FT plans wanted foamboard spars 1/2" tall
Mine might have come out same weight

Danskis with blenderm being rubbery, is this your favorite hinge tape backside of glue stick.
You put both blenderm then minwax and paint?

Preferred over packing tape?

Hi Danskis
I found 3M Nexcare waterproof tape in Texas, USA. Sometimes people living in other countries find different stuff. Blenderm in GB or UK?

Spitfire feels heavy at 35oz 11.9oz wing load.

There's a real good looking airplane in rcgroups.com foam called Big Nasty about ws 40" foam without paper symmetrical airfoil stunts n 3D. You almost just don't need a plan, put a carbon fiber rod inside some foam stack to maybe .75 to 1 inch wing spar. Some cover and make it look good.

So I've done everything to get as light as possible except getting smaller lipos.
Essentials are 12 .6727 oz motor, control, battery, servos

Leaving fuse, wing, spar, power pod
35 oz has one oil base coat polyurethane, not painted and missing cockpit and aft tapered structure. Looks like a 2x4 with squared wings reaching for more wing area 44" ws

Wing Load 11.9oz. Does this sound typical of most peoples builds?

Professor - I don't have a favorite. Someone gave me some Blenderm so I tried it. Some online retailers sell it as "hinge tape". I minwax over all the hinge tape I use. I don't need most of my planes to look pretty...but I did put some extra effort into that Spitfire.

Hello Danskis
Good to hear from you.

Gets obsessive when you find something else

Here's something found on RCGROUPS.COM foam scratchbuilds I want to build fly 3D ...where to get old floppy disks for hinges

Burt Bacharach died today at age 94

Remember him on bus playing piano singing in Austin Powers?

I'd like to go back in my time machine and live there
It's been recommended lengthen nose by 1.5"
