FT Tiny Trainer - BUILD

Hi guys This is a better pic of my scratch built Tiny Trainer. As you can see I stole the paint scheme from JB. It came out great. It is my first ever airframe and flew very well. In my excitement to show my brother my creation I did hangar rash the tail but he quickly helped me fix it and correctly CG the plane. We took it to the local soccer field and played pass the transmitter. I had a great time and can’t believe how fun it is to see something you built fly away into the sky. Thanks again to my big brother (Beerbatter) and a huge thanks to all of the Flite Test Team. I have learned years of information in a very short time thanks to your show. So from the bottom of my heart THANKS!

I just finished my TT. Second FT build. First time painting. Can't wait to maiden it.

Rear mounted servos and a DYS BE1806 motor.

Still Learning
Plan Weight?

When the weight is listed in the plans, what is included? Servos? Receiver? Or just the bare foam?

Mine comes in around 300 grams AUW (Minwax, paint, a fair amount of tape, Power pack A, three channel wing, Fr-Sky X8R, 2S 850mh Turnigy battery, battery tester, and cable extenders for four channel wing pre-installed). I think I did not have a prop installed, so add two grams? :) But, I did toss four rubber bands on top since the wing wasn't actually attached to the fuselage when I weighed it.

We were transporting a new one, and the stabilizer got hit in the truck. I think the paper separated from the foam at the fuselage joint. So, printed the plans and will make a new one. Too windy to fly today, anyhow.

My painted TT's AUW is right at 300 grams too.

It put together my sport wing last night in a classic style with red, yellow, & minwax

Just built a Tiny Trainer as a hand launched glider and I love it. This thing glides so much further than I would have thought and tracks nice and straight. I plan on building the 4-channnel one in future, but right now the grand kids and I are having a blast just tossing it around the back yard. Thank you guys for everything you've done for the community.

It was spectacular

This is the reason I don't build with balsa anymore. :black_eyed:

I was trying to learn to fly upside down. I lost the airplane's orientation when silhouetted against the sky. It was flying two mistakes high. Should've been at least three. Whacked the ground at a perfect 90º. At least the wing survived though one of the aileron servos stripped gears.

One evening to build a new fuselage, one more for paint, and it's flying again. Thank you Flite Test!

I bought one of the inexpensive Harbor Freight air brushes. Using Apple acrylic paint from Walmart. Two coats and it covered completely without warping or delaminating the paper. Dries almost instantly. It worked great. Now I have to build something else just so I can paint it.

Someday I'll build another balsa airplane but not until my piloting skills improve significantly.

hi, i built the ft tt but when i turn on the motor the power pod keep turning right please help

"The power pod keep turning right"???

I don't understand. Sounds like something is out of proper alignment. My first Tiny Trainer was warped pretty good but it still could be trimmed and flew very well.

My Newest TT Build

i was pretty happy with my newest TT build, so i thought i would show it off! I still have to add the power pod, but it will have a 2204 2300kv motor, 3s 1300 battery. I decided not to have a rudder, just ailerons and elevator, i hope it works.

All I have are the larger power pods, 25A esc and 1300mah batteries with a Turnigy d2836/6 1100kv motor. If I don't add the doublers to the nose do you think I can squeeze in the full size power pod? Also will this be too heavy? Looking for something relaxing to fly but don't want the 50+ inch wingspan of the explorer.

Finished my Tiny Trainer a little while ago, this is the plane I should have started with.

It really is a great little plane and a lot of fun. I wonder sometimes if people starting out are turned off by the name or are just looking for something cool and warbirdy at first.

And some of us are just plain stubborn.

It's an airplane you can stick with too. :) I'm very glad I started with the Tiny Trainer when I decided to get back into this hobby. I tried a RTF "trainer" several years ago, the Firebird Phantom. It was a very discouraging experience. I still have all the pieces. The 3 channel Tiny Trainer is the first airplane that flew well enough on it's maiden that I could swap batteries and fly it again. Now it's a four channel and I'm getting bolder with simple aerobatics. The TT will always be in my hanger and have a special place as the first RC airplane I flew successfully.

I order the TT speed build kit last Friday I think, it hasn't shipped yet so the first one was from plans. I just couldn't wait that long. Addicted is an understatement. LOL

I maidened my TT! What a great little plane! So much fun running on 3S with the power pack A motor. It even flies with the battery on the cord! LOL You can see that at 2:02 minutes in the video. There was not much velcro on the battery, so it fell off in a curve, hanging out together with the ESC, but the motor wires didnt break and CG was still good, so I was able to land her. :)
