My buddy took a shot of the Versa in flight the other day before I plowed it into the ground, there went one of my FT stickers :(

And here are a few quick clips from a camera I set stationary on a small tripod about 6" off the ground for the same friend to do low passes with his UMX Carbon Cub.

My Maiden Pusher flight

Hello all,

This is my first Versa scratch build and my first Pusher flight. the wing started out as a tractor style but quickly turned into a pusher after the second nose dive, so a few props later the Maiden flight. Took a few tosses but once airborne it flew fairly well considering it had one bad servo and up until the motor almost fell off, must of loosened up on the first face plant...

Its running a no name 1800kv outrunner with a 7x5 prop, a 35 amp electrifly silver series ESC. and a 2200 mah 3s lipo.

My girl was goofing around because I dragged her out to film the Maiden, shes funny..

Below is the versa in tractor style that did manage a maiden flight, until it nosed dived and broke stuff..

Just finished my swapable FT Versa. Used some color duct tape to cover it and then clear tape over that. Maiden flight went good although I need to make sure to check the correct CG next time as the plane was nose diving the whole time even with full trim.

Having built a versa wing for slope soaring, I finally pulled it apart after stripping my crappy HK servos in a pretty brutal cliff face vs versa wing event. I've ordered some nice digital metal geared overpowered Emax servos for version 2 as you pull some pretty hard fast turns slope soaring.

I'm also planning on building a powered pusher versa for the flying field. I had planned that it would be the normal versa, but after reading this thread I'm tending towards the blunt nose as I will be putting at least a Mobius in the front, and probably FPV gear shortly after.

Can anybody outline any pros and cons of the blunt nose variant? I am aware that both variants have CG issues due to the weight of the motor (hell, the slope soaring needs 250g in the nose to get the CG right with no motor!)

I had a nice flight with my FT-Versa Wing. Today. Still one of my favorite planes even after a couple of years with her.

Can you use the thin collor tape and night leds, or will the collor change then? I'm planning to use the collors black and red with the tape and blue and red for night flying.

If you're flying mode 2, try launching it with your left hand. At the beginning it's harder but it will be much easier than launching it with you right hand

Agreed, this way you have you right hand on the stick for elevon inputs as soon as it's in the air.

Vesra Wing nose protection

First wing and second RC airplane so after a few hand launch my poor versa wing lost her shine, with her nose completely smash. The hole for the Gopro and the other one for the batteries make the nose really fragile so I decided to reinforce the nose with a piece of MDF. That turn out to work pretty well, even if my wing hit hard the ground the plate stand very well.

There are holes for the GoPro and holes to attache the optional batteries doors.

I have a question, I order a Versa wing blunt nose version, and would like to laminate it. On some forum, you just iron the laminating film on the foam and that's it. But on some other first you spray glue and then you iron the laminating film.

So could I laminate before the construction of the wing? And shall I use the laminating film with iron only or shall I use first the spray glue first?

I ordered a 1.7 mil Gloss Film Laminating Film : http://www.laminatorwarehouse.com/laminating-film/premium-cp-laminating-film

Laminate afterwards -- Lamination films have quite a bit of stiffness when cold, but conforms and molds well when warm and bonds well when hot. applying it to the paper/foam first will affect how the board folds up, and can weaken the bond between the lamination and airframe as the parts try to slide relative to each other as they fold.

Spray adhesive is your call -- it's used to tack it down so it doesn't move until you've gotten the heat to it. As you turn the corners on the LE, a little bit of heat will make the plastic more flexible, so if you do use the spray, it's best to only hit the edge you're starting with, otherwise you'll end up with more wrinkles because it didn't want to turn the corners sharply when cold. Tack one side with glue/heat, gently pulling it tight, then spread the heat. The more you have adhered down, the less it will move.

I'd also recommend stripping the paper after assembling the wing halves and blunt-nose section. The lamination film will have far more stiffness and durability than the paper has, and you don't need the weight of both. You'll have to reattach the hatch and aileron hinges with tape, but that should be easy.

Naturally, I'd recommend trying all this on scraps first -- folded and glued into shape like a wing section, if you can manage it -- so you can get the feel of the material before you try it for real.
