Here it is folks! We show you how to build the FT-Viggen. Yes, we are just as excited as you!

If you want to pick up a speed-build kit head on over to the store. Otherwise, you can download the free plans at the bottom of this article.

At this point in the build, if you are building a light version of the FT-Viggen, check the video below for how to add your preferred power system.

If you are using an EDF unit, we have 70mm and 64mm mounts included in the kit. Either will work.

Make sure to sight your vertical stabilizer!

viggen-build-16-jpg_1392233567.jpg

We recommend tracing out the nose piece before you shape it. It will take all the force of an impact and crush in on itself. That way the body of the plane is unharmed. All you have to do is attach a new nose and you're good to go!
If you would simply like to buy more noses they are available in the store!

I may have to stay up late 3D modeling this for RC Desk Pilot. (I already made a .wav sound file from the EDF Afterburner episode for the engine sounds.)

Been waiting all day for this to come on the page. So stoked to get my foam on the way to work in the morning. Thanks in advance flitetest crew. Got a 64mm waiting to go in.

Is anyone planning to or already reduced the plans for 50mm EDF version?

Keep the good job guys!!!

I thought of it but wanted to build the normal sized version first! Besides my VERSA Wing has my 55mm fan on it right now. Need to crash that first!!!

Just a little tip: instead of taping the servo connectors together, I find it much better to use a small zip-tie round them.

Amazing build though. I really wish Shipping wasn't so expensive.

The release came too late to go to Staples last night, and due to the storm today, I'm back to tiling the plans! Now I remember why I stopped doing that. Noticed that the tiled plans have 2 page 10's, both different. I can figure it out from the jpeg of the plans, but just an FYI...

For anyone building this from the free downloaded plans and knows
how difficult it can be to cut a clean circle in foam board, (for the ducted fan)
I have used this tool on DTF and it works fantastic after you find the exact center:

http://www.hobbico.com/tools/hcar0230.html

For a cut as big as the ducted fan holes, it might be a good idea to put a
few small pieces of masking tape at the center of the circle,
then find and mark the exact center,
and then insert the needle to prevent it from drifting in the soft foam,
or just press a bit harder so it plants real good into your cutting mat
and be sure to keep the tool perfectly upright while you spin it around.

Might also be a good idea to ever so slightly under size the hole
to get a nice tight physical contact around the fan unit.

I bought mine at Tower Hobbies for only $6.00.

I did a cut to show what it can do,
but my blade was so dull I am a bit embarrased
Still, no way I personally can do a cut even close to this
by hand with only an Xacto knife...

also there are a few issues with the tiled plans doubled pages and the pages numbers are off on the cover as well as in the plans. and the vertical stab overlaps the fuselage.

I just printed out the full sided (un-tiled) version and let my computer and printer do the marking for the tiling and taped it all together. I went to Dollar Tree before the storm and got 8 pieces of foam board.......Last night ordered the 70mm fan base package from Grayson also before the mad rush!!!

I have the tiled plans together and there are some problems with page numbers and alignments.

I hope this helps.
Pages 10, 20 and 30 are not necessary if you are doing a rear prop. If you are doing an edf, you would chose the appropriate diameter formers to match your edf size. This is how the page numbers should lay out...
PicsArt_1392313876679.jpg

There is also a conflict between pages 5,6,14 and 15 where the stabilizer is overlapping onto the fuselage so it will be necessary to re print these or eyeball them to cut the stabilizer.

Here is my build in progress

I'm going with the versa mount because I don't have an edf right now I'll be using 2212 2200kv motor and most likely my 3000 3s zippy pack to balance it out

I used the rear edf mount to help maintain the proper shape of the fuselage

mounted my esc in the rear because I'll be changing this set up out for the ntm prop drive 2700 kv motor and 50 amp esc later.

she will be finished up tomorrow with the exception of poly and paint..

can't wait to get my edf and build another one.
