Had a good showing of folks at the flying site yesterday!

There was this amusing moment when we realized two of the guys had "matching" shirts.

I have been told there's a few 5' and smaller alligators in the pond.
So, should we stamp " This product contains EPO foam which is known by the state of ---------- to be harmfull, and is known to cause float belly syndrome in alligators, and increase boiancy, resulting in impaired stelth mode in crocs." on the bottom of our float planes?

Wake up! Time to fly!

I don't see float belly in an alligator as such a bad thing. they will always be visible and have less chances of biting your face off when you bend down to put in or take out your plane on water. Should be a governmentally regulated thing mandatory on all RC flight lines and Golf courses around the world. I'd feel lees discriminated against if they start over regulating someone elses life.

Ehhhh... not much.

Just trying to get more people to show up at this point.

We have a fenced in parking area, and an east/west runway. It's both grass, and graded dirt at this time. I have not installed the geotex yet.

We're looking to mow in a north/south runway. The county commissioner did mow the top of the hill for us, and we tried out slope soaring there.

Last week a couple guys from a local drone group joined us and had a blast chasing planes, so I expect to see them there again.

The vinyl sign arrived this week. Stephen Rosema did the designing of it, and John Overstreet printed it out and sent it to us.

I bought some backing board and mounted the vinyl to that last night. I bought some 4x4 posts and am planning to build the kiosk and install the sign today.

I am planning to start setting up some build nights. Two families showed up last week, and they expressed interest in doing some FT designs.

I'm also working on something with Lee. I'm hoping some people will be at the flying site today so I can make them an offer. If we can get enough interested in the idea I can tell Lee it's a green light, and... well the details are still a secret for now, but it's a pretty cool idea from Lee.

So, I checked the thermometer and it says it is cold out.

I will be going to the field, but I will not be there at 8 am as usual. Plan for closer to 9 am...

Build/tech nights...

I have a meeting at the tricounty airport this week. I am going to ask them if we can use the boardroom (not a hangar as Josh mentioned in the last podcast) to host a build night or two. I will be attending an EAA chapter meeting on the 15th, and we will try to get the ball rolling on working with their young eagles program. Builds at the airport, then flying at the site.

I will also start touching base with some of the county community centers to see if we can get some build nights started there too. January is a financially thin month for me, but I'll see about getting some of the EZ pack kits from Flite Test and we'll start with those.

I'd also like to get some tech nights going. I've received a lot of phone calls recently from people who are pilots in the area, but because of "local" (hour or more away) field closures they've stepped back from the hobby. They've expressed enough interest in the new field that the county has been getting phone calls, and the county commissioner told me they'd be putting out a couple directional signs. One outside the field, pointing up to the parking area, as well as one at the end of the main road in, to let people know where to turn.

Sorry, distracted... tech nights. There's been new interest, but mostly from nitro guys as I can tell, I'm wanting to also get some "tech nights"going. Where people bring whatever they want to work on, and we all tinker on the stuff. If you want to build, then break out the CA or hot glue. If you want to get help reapplying your covering on a plane, I have a couple irons and some film. Interested in converting a plane from glow to electric, I'll be happy to help. Whatever they want to work on, they can bring. We can order a couple pizzas and make a night of it.

If you’d move the field about 500 miles northeast, I’d be there every day!

Need to deal with house stuff today, bit if I can fit in a 2 hour drive that way, I can see about trying to make it out that way.

Had a great day at the airfield today.

  • The field itself is good size for flying and I like the fact that there is the ability to have 2 flight areas, to help break up fliers if there are more people there or different types of flying.
  • Hopefully some sort of bathroom/port-a-potty/something gets worked out, this is the biggest downside.
  • Would also be nice to have some sort of power/charging hook up, however this can be more easily solved by bringing a generator and/or battery bank/etc
  • The road to the field is a clay? road. I have seen plenty of them in Florida, and they seem to be fine. They just still surprise me when I see them as I grew up in the north where said roads wouldn't likely make it through a single winter.
  • Overall, the site looks really promising, we had a whole mix of people, from iNav & Arudopilot planes, to quads, LOS FT foamies, and people who fly nitro there in the small bit of time I was there. It was really nice to have such a spread of interests there to talk to and interact. Especially with everyone being interested with what everyone else was flying and being happy to see the variety of stuff.

Tuco and I stopped by the field yesterday and flew some planes in pretty nice gusts. I see plenty of potential for the field. We used to fly near West Bay at an old abandoned Saw Mill on the same road as Bay County Steel Field Landfill until Michal.
Will post the videos I shot once they're edited and on my YouTube channel.

Would like to get the combination to the gate if possible? The Holms Field is about 40 minutes from the Hangar.

Look forward to meeting you all,

Jeff Frey AKA Jeff in Lower Alabama

I'll be stuck at Falling Waters. They're super short staffed and I'm covering for the whole day.

But weather was supposed to be meh, so I am not too upset. :D

On a side note Happy... Got your email, I'll get up with you about the training soon.
