FTCA should be the one representing us in Congress

Throughout my short time in the hobby, I've found out that AMA is creating a monopoly. Making it so you can only fly without Remote ID in THEIR fields is outrageous. And in Congress, they aren't really helping us get more freedoms, they just keep them from destroying our hobby. It's good what they are doing, but they don't get to the roots of why the government wants to put regulations on us. Maybe someone should just point out that there has been only 1 RC plane related death in an entire decade while "Drones" (the phone controlled ones) have caused a lot of accidents. And what is the AMA doing to get people into the hobby? Making NATS not being public until 2023. YouTube videos on how to start a gas engine (like a beginner kid will own and afford one) with 600 views a YEAR. They are doing their job, but they aren't doing it right. And I do understand the insurance thing, but chances are that a foam plane will do as much damage as a giant balsa gasser, well.

There are at least 3 organizations representing the hobby. AMA, FTCA, and FPVFC.
I'm not an AMA member, and I don't plan to be, but the AMA is NOT "making it so you can only fly without Remote ID in THEIR fields". Any club designated as a FRIA can fly RID free.

It's been that way for a very long time. Back in the 1990's, there was a 2nd rc organization competing with the AMA. It was called the Sport Flyers Association. The AMA sued the SFA, not sure why, but the SFA went bankrupt, never to recover.

The SFA was a great organization. It had clubs, flying fields, insurance & great magazine. You did not have to belong to fly at one of their fields. Everyone was welcome to fly.

I used my wayback machine to get a copy of the SFA rules & an add for an event.

RID is annoying though......It's not really necessary as anyone trying to get into airport ect will be seen on their radar....And as for harassing people that's all covered in other laws anyway.....But I am sure there is a lot more too it that I don't know about.....

RID with it's short range is only meant to identify what is immediately around you. Really NOT that great of a "system" and Nothing like ADSB which identifies airplanes hundreds of miles away.

Yeah, I just don't see why it's a requirement.....

The radios already on your gear and your transmitter give off more detectable signals at MUCH longer ranges. Especially if you are flying FPV! LOL There are systems which can identify your transmitter protocol and triangulate location from miles away.

RID is just meant to be a "simple" system for identification like a license plate.

It is wild how easily and immediately the Government picks up our radio signatures. Central US has all of the silos and such and each coast has naval and combat aviation assets. All of which is monitored by the fine folks in Air Defense(cant say enough great things). Just like our side income we think they don’t know about, they know, they know…. most of us just aren’t those types of folks so generally speaking, we don’t have to worry about a ceiling fan of freedom (R9X) coming through our front window. Speaking of which, has anyone ever actually been harassed flying out in the boonies?
