FTFC´18 WWII Ki-98 Mansyu designed by Zephyr1

The Ki-98 Mansyu was a late war Japanese prototype aircraft designed as a high altitude fighter/interceptor. One prototype was under contruction when the factory fell into Soviet hands and it's designers destroyed it. It would have been armed with 1 37mm and 2 20mm cannons. Performance estimates were 455mph, with a 775 mile range and a ceiling of 32,800 ft.

This is my second computer designed scratch build so this first design is a more of a prototype for me. I plan on updating the plans and increasing the scale of the airplane. At the moment, the fuselage is boxy and simple. I will try to update it and create a more cylindrical fuselage later on. Here are the build pictures at the moment.

That looks great! Will be watching closely to steal ideas for the Ju EF 112. Heck, maybe I'll just stick two motors on this one and call it done

Alright, so I finished it up, mk1 prototype was completed and maidened. I need to move the powerpod further forward in the fuse because as of right now, it is a bit tail heavy. Other then that i thought the maiden went very well, I used a hobbyking 1100kv motor and a 2200mah 3S to power it. I also used rubber bands to secure the fuse to the airframe so that i can replace the fuse and keep the airframe. Here's some pictures and I'll upload the video soon.

Congrats on the maiden!

I think this is a really solid piece of work - looks like the quality of an FT release. Get the balance right, a little detail in terms of canopy and/or turtle deck and this should be a "I wanna build one of those" planes.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I think fix the fuselage and its done. Turtledeck, canopy, and nose cone and of course a paint job and it should be good. I think I'm gonna have to build another airplane for this competition, I'm thinking something German, any ideas?

Check out http://www.luft46.com/ if you haven't yet - tons of wacky German designs up there.

Some of my favorites that I haven't seen tackled yet are the wacky BMW Schnellbombers http://www.luft46.com/bmw/bmw.html - especially that forward swept one!

Or this wacky thing that looks like an early design for a Klingon Bird of Prey http://www.luft46.com/heinkel/hep1078b.html

And this is just a really cool canard fighter design that reminds me a little of the Bugatti project http://www.luft46.com/henschel/hsp75.html
