Also if you want to support FT you can use these electronics from their store in your build!

https://store.flitetest.com/rotorgeeks-1407-4000kv-blue/
https://store.flitetest.com/blheli-series-12amp-esc-xt-30/
https://store.flitetest.com/es9051-4-3g-plastics-digital-servo/
https://store.flitetest.com/2s-300mah-35c-battery/

It is a little more expensive than my Banggood electronics but it helps support FT and what they do. Also it won't take forever to ship and these electronics can be run up to 4s lipos! (although I would not recommend this with this model)

The community feature article is here
https://www.flitetest.com/articles/community-spotlight-the-mighty-mini-discovery

Thank you so much for featuring my design!

Another thing, I plan on doing a full on review of this plane in the near future, I was thinking of just exploring the field at the end of my street and seeing what fun would come of it. What fun activity/challenge would you like to see? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

wicked!! bookmarked the article! i think setting up some gates and trying to fly through them. if not gates than maybe just landmarks to fly around. any basketball courts? you could try to weave in and out around the poles.

do you think you could link to the banggood ones you have? i love supporting ft but for electronics like that it is much cheaper elsewhere (no offense ft. i bought my qx7 from you so i do support you guys).

I mean the bg ones are $35 and the ft ones are $47 and you don’t have to wait a month for them to show up. I usually order stuff from bg but for $12 more and the electronics are way better I personally would go with the ft stuff. But yeah I can get them in a second.

thanks for the links! with the way i fly (eerrr.. crash), i need the cheapest stuff so its okay (ish) when i break it!

and battery is a 2s 500? i think you mentioned it can do 3s, correct? would i still do 500mah?

I don’t know, it’ll definitely be faster, I just took a guess when I got my battery. I think it should work though.

The mustang is going great and I will do the post on it later tonight with some more flight footage I got yesterday. I also tried the "third person" FPV on it today and it was awesome! I could not do it long because of the wind but it was fun none the less.

Okay just a quick note before I post on the stang, I flew v2.1 of the discovery today and it did not go too well...

First off I did not adjust the plans enough to fix the angle of the wing.

Second, because of issue one the plan tip stalled into a tree, I got it back though. Unfortunately it sustained some damage.

IMG_6433[1].JPG

The wing was folded on the side that I hit it with a baseball, I didn't get any pics until after I had repaired this part.

IMG_6434[1].JPG

The tail had also come loose, but overall it did very well for getting hit 5 times with a baseball from a former little league pitcher lol

So if you are building a chuck glider it should be completely fine, but as of now if you are building this as a powered version you will need to cut off some foam on the front of the fuselage where it meets the wing to lower the angle of attack on the wing. It still needs to be about a foam boards width lower, or around 5mm or 3/16 of an inch. I will change the plans when I have time but until then, Please pay attention and read this!

XL Bloody Mustang

bloodystang.jpg

I choose this plane for the build-ruary because I have always wanted to build a bloody barron but I just never really wanted one. I liked the practicality of it but the looks weren't really my style. Then came along the amazing bloody WWII thread. They are doing some awesome stuff over there and they gave me the inspiration to build this plane and now I want to build all of their other models! Seriously go check them out!

Plans for this plane are here as well, along with many others.

Build

The build was very strait forward and almost identical to the bloody barron, glue fuselage with a b fold, attach doublers on the inside, make generic FT wing with classic spar, glue together tail surfaces, and put them on the plane along with servos and bam! An awesome plane has been born. (I can't do too much of a build log because I started this before I knew about build-ruary so no pics :( )

Flight

Here is a flight video (a better one is coming soon, it will be uploaded tonight)

This plane is a lot of fun to fly with enough control to do some awesome stuff and definitely enough to have a spectacular crash. Mine is a bank and yank model with no rudder, I just really wanted to get out and fly this thing.

Summary

It was a blast to fly at the field at the end of my street, and with a power pack C on a 3s 1500mah it was a rocket! I had a 10x4.5 so it was not too fast but it had A LOT of thrust, I was cruising around 1/3 throttle. The power pack B is a lot more tame and very efficient, this with a 2200mah battery would be a great combat platform. It still had great performance with the power pack b, I have the older one that uses a 8in prop, I can't remember the pitch off hand. But I can put up to a 10x4.5 in on it with no issues so I might do that in the future.

Do's and Don'ts

There are not really any don'ts with this plane, it is a great model and flies fantastic. Just make sure to use around 50% expo on the controls, you can use 30 on the elevator but those giant ailerons need to be tamed with the 50% expo. Other than that build one and have fun, its a really durable model that is a lot of fun to fly!

Unfortunately I will not be able to build the motor glider this month or the FT Flyer, I still got in my two youth entries though. Well actually three since I built and flew two different models of the Discovery, it is up to foamydm on that one.

I also just thought of something, since I stalled the micro FT Flyer and the motor glider I might just be able to enter them into March Madness lol

FoamTest - I only saw the one Discovery build and write-up in February. I thought V1 finished in Jan.
I'm assuming they were stalled at the start of February in which case, type up an entry. (if you play the lottery 4 times you are 4 times likely to win.)

Bring it on - just try not to get burnt out! :)

The main reason why I built two was for the build video lol, it is still in production. I am not sure when that will be done since I need to work on my car this weekend but it will be posted sooner or later!

Yes the V1 was in January, but V2 and V2.1 in February, most of the pics are of V2.1 because V2 is ugly lol.
