OK. so, um... I kinda goofed and started this. because I wanted to see how it came together only to realize... it was easy.
Dec 18 near Xmas 2021 Cut out to get ahead. (how hard are these cuts anyway)
IMG_20211218_221438539.jpg IMG_20211218_222829205.jpg
Jan 15th - I wanted to see how sturdy the wings would be... and then the fuse was... just a step away.:)
IMG_20220108_013217653.jpg IMG_20220108_013213060.jpg IMG_20220108_023109816.jpg IMG_20220116_014023526.jpg IMG_20220116_010143054.jpg IMG_20220118_013009722.jpg
Jan 17th - do the assembly methods I want to use, work? (yes Mostly)
IMG_20220118_012909200.jpg IMG_20220118_012924780.jpg IMG_20220118_012921522.jpg IMG_20220118_012932648.jpg IMG_20220118_012950020.jpg
2 weak points
1. The stress on the pins holding the wings to the fuse are never gonna hold in the wing. However, plastic reinforced holes are a different animal. The pieces need to be big enough to distribute the load from the joiner pins/clips
2. The first rib... So I need to cut out 4 and replace and double each rib 1. so the fuse pins will be solid!

Next steps are, skin and lights.

At this point, I have 3 options: recut, do the balsa, do another plane.

Feb 1st
This project looks complete but, there is still about 50% to go. (LED, Servos, leading and trailing edge treatments and Cover film application.)
as the saying goes - 75% complete, 90% to go. So I will continue with this entry. (I may redo a wing though.
Feb 2
Here is the prep on the plastic bags.
IMG_20220201_121010406.jpg IMG_20220201_121033914.jpg

February 9th
I worked on deconstructing the One Wing to open it up to be able to add LEDs in both sides and to make them more even. I'm not sure which exact LEDs I want to use I have blue and white and I have those rgb non-addressable multicolor on with the remote I'm not sure if there's a way to set that on the pwm on a knob and just rotate the knob until you get what you like. if so, that's what I'd like to do. IMG_20220210_002611304.jpg

February 27th
I don't understand how 3 weeks passed and I got nearly Nothing done on the plane but I did succeed in getting half of the lighting completed. I'm hoping to be able to finish the second half so I can button up the wings and give it a try

March 5th, 6th & 8th.

Ready for covering
IMG_20220305_021350705.jpg IMG_20220305_021455904.jpg
Getting the covering stay glued
IMG_20220305_073617236.jpg
I added a trailing edge from poster board. And a leading edge from another campfire skewer.
IMG_20220305_074149892.jpg IMG_20220305_074549582.jpg
Lights are installed, soldering done, wing closed. Does it light up?

This will be for the Hangar RC WASP instead
1643724496959.png

Time is getting MUCH Shorter. So, I will be posting this build in the event I don't get where I'm going with the HRC WASP
It is STEM time again.. (yes last night I cut out 18 planes in a record 1h10m. (they weren't scored or beveled yet. That's tonight's task.)

Feb 17th
In order to demonstrate different types of Aircraft at the STEM event. I will bring some models, but I also wanted to show them a walk along glider. I have build a Motorized one with the EZ pack , but I haven't tested it in a Gym. I still wanted to show them a push glider version. with these, Weight is not your friend, so I was trying to reduce the Tail weight and use a covering to keep the aerodynamic set. I was originally going to build the glider, take off the paper behind the CG. then spray M77 and place and heat-tighten veggie grocer bags... then abandoned it for Color, and use the 3" wide Colored Packing tape. it's thin, has adhesive, and still Very light. (although I and curious to test the difference.)
IMG_20220217_232543754.jpg IMG_20220218_012644271.jpg
IMG_20220218_012614701.jpg

I will again, be building the EZ Kitten per my Article (written long ago) as it demonstrates and allows the families to practice all the skills needed to continue with it. I will be taking an older one and marking it up IDing the parts of the plane. (and show them terms on the plane, not a picture)

Feb 18th
Because they are SO quick and easy to cut and build, I may make a run of them and see if we have time. At this point I think I have made 7 different designs with the scouts, and 2 Designs have stood out. The tiny trainers style and the little sparrow. I have found that the profile planes don't hold up as long.

Here are the Plans. I plan to stack 9 Foam Sheets together, and cut the glider out on the Jigsaw making notches where the score lines end.
FDM-WAGjr.PNG
While this is Beta, it established to work. the CG is correct. This version may not event need something to balance it.

I had used a design method I learned when talking with Jack Niezgoda ( @Niez13 )about how he goes about his designs.
Listen to the Interview here: ARCN Episode 33
immediately after I wanted to try it. This shows some of the progress.
1643728595082.png 1643728609640.png
And here is the Glide test:

However this is was an alpha build... and small (5" Prop). so I sized it up ~160%, for a B-C pack motor system. If I complete it in time, I will put it in for the 2022 Inaugural HangarRC Build-off Challenge.

In an effort to give myself a fighting chance I "speed built it" and cut it out ahead of time.

Feb 2,2022
I stared beveling and working on the pod and box and formers.

Fiddled with the Fuselage skin forming. Things aren't matching like I thought they would. :cautious:

DGA-6 Mr. Mulligan - Mayan build (a past Build-ruary winner with 13 planes!)
This design was laser cut and sent by my friend @kilroy07 as part of a build group. I haven't put it together yet, this looks like the perfect plane to finish the challenge with.
Here is what it looks like, and how mine *should* fly.

See post #7 below for the punt option for the 4th build.
By the end of it, it was late, and I was exhausted. So Technically, I build a Chuck Glider (I'll need to take video) and I build the EZ Dusty and had it next to my FT Dusty.
Feb 28th
Today I shifted over the electronics. Using the suggestion to angle the motors to be level with flight, not the wing trailing edge. The. I went out and flew it

Just updated Post #3 - now a walk behind glider, with Lightening holes covered with Colored tape. (Skin, and color!)
Glides amazing too!

The Cub Scout STEM night went well. Before we began, I was able to Fly the EZ walk behind (first time in the gym) and I needed high rates, and hard turns. but I managed a few laps to demonstrate what RC can be and could fly them remotely.
IMG_20220218_202703882.jpg

Then we put together 16 Tiny Trainer Style Gliders, I took an old one of which I used to label the parts. and used the 17th to demonstrate the steps. We had a VERY large amount of Tail failures at the front of the elevator/rudder insert. (nothing Tape and glue couldn't fix.) I brought colored Tape, and crayons to make the plane unique, and it was a welcome add. In the end it was mayhem, smiles, woahs, and a pile of excited scouts.

One of the parent found it interesting that the Boy's Priority was to run out and chuck the glider, and the girls made sure it was Colored to their liking first.
All in all, another big success!

My oldest son finally built one with us (many opportunities) he say the build was... eh. The Flying was COOL.
My youngest has built one in prior years, and wanted to build a flying wing instead, so he was disappointed with that. As i had the parts, it was going to be a simple moment this week.

Sounds like those kids had a blast. That is a really cool thing for kids to do. I wish all kids had that opportunity.
Dusty looks good. I update it a while ago to fix the skin on the nose. I should update again to get the fuse on one page with no split. How did it glide?

I'm not sure... I didn't put in Ballast in the Dusty, but one of the 6 yr old just kept throwing it until it broke under the wing. Glue and some electronics and I'll give it a go tomorrow in the Cul-de-sac. (4th build?)

When you put the motors in make horizontal slits in the foam for the little tabs to slide in. If you just stick them on the thrust angle is going the wrong way, so you have to make the slits about as angled as you can. I hope that makes sense. And high rates. Good luck

It does and a big thanks. It has been way too windy for a plane like that but I think this afternoon might be good

today is the Last day, I a Fear... I won't get it finished... Like NONE of them really. except the Orange and White Walk behind glider.
I may get Mini-Dusty done. And, the Marabu should have Lights Fully Wired, and battery tray. and the Servos in and Wired.

BUT, I have a family to make dinner for, and a Podcast to record tonight. So Likely I will have two done.
and I'm disappointed I couldn't pull myself to the table more this month.

(while it's not over... it's Close)

Im sorry you didnt get more time to work on the cooler projects but it is cool for me to see someone elses ez dusty flying. Ive made 3 and they all fly different. None as good as the lucky first one. I like the landing gear. Did you make it out of control rod wire?
The marabu is going to be really cool. Im looking forward to seeing that. I would suggest you have some lights that help with orientation for all directions. I would put a small light in the pod to help you know which way is down. And red lights on the left and green on the right. Also it might be fine but I think too much white lights are overwealming for me and have made it too bright plus I could barely see the other colors because the white just outshined them on a couple planes I made. I havent tried this but since your white lights are already there maybe you could put red or green colored paper or something over parts of them.

Yes, I made the gear out of control wire. Similar to standard V@90° to the slayed gear legs. I have a backward hook/clip at the V bottom, and the down turn at the top of the V goes over and in front of a wide peg a little bigger than the top of the V is.
I am close to done. I just closed up the wings. I am also will be adding a motor, so I have to check where the Battery needs to go. but as I was about to close the fuse up I realized I forgot to add disconnects for the light power. which means the wings would be attached. then I got distracted.

So I am still working on the Marabou although it felt like I was right almost at the end. I realized a couple quick things one I wanted to put a motor on it and I did not design the formers of the fuselage to accept a motor. This of course makes it a little bit difficult to balance but here's some pictures of the motor mount and it might have been easier if I designed it to take a power pod. I've cut little holes in each of the formers to pass the ESC wires through and the signal wire and as it's suspended in the middle it should not affect the lighting much at night.
IMG_20220323_150716020.jpg IMG_20220323_150722412.jpg
While doing this, I had to move it around a lot and I ended up breaking the brace anchor. So I made a metal clip using a piece of sheet metal as per the original plans.
IMG_20220323_233025290.jpg
I will have to do that some more.
I am just trying to get to a point to close it up.
