1. FT MM Explorer

Feb 8: Cut parts. Glued the wing and dry-fitted the fuselage.
PXL_20260208_215417365.jpg PXL_20260208_215413534.MP.jpg

Feb 14: Glued the Fuselage. I had to use corregated plastic instead of wood, so we'll see how that affects the plane.
PXL_20260215_040933128.jpg PXL_20260227_184247595.MP.jpg

Feb 28: Knuckled down and installed the electronics. The pushrods were not long enough, so I had to extend them with additional wire joined with superglue and shrinking wire connection tubing. Yet another experiment to see how this plane survives it's janky build. Included in the janky-build section: Old gift card for the tail control horns.
PXL_20260228_155818850.MP.jpg PXL_20260228_165250995.MP.jpg PXL_20260228_214837226.MP.jpg

I didn't like how the motor sits high without any aerodynamic piece in front of it, so quickly added a piece of moulded foam.
PXL_20260228_214738575.MP.jpg

And we're done! The build took approximately 8 hours, including printing and assembling the plans, cutting out the parts and figuring out what alternative materials can be used. The electronics and linkages also always take me quite a while to do.

Build experience/difficulty rating: 3. If I had a speed-build kit, it would be an easy 2.

2. EZ Sparrow (Red-wing Blackbird)

Feb 14: One day build: Cut out the pieces, glued the plane together with hot glue and added the electronics (EZ Pack taken from my old EZ Sparrow).
PXL_20260214_200117988.MP.jpg PXL_20260214_212755232.MP.jpg PXL_20260214_212803660.MP.jpg PXL_20260214_214219619.MP.jpg

Added some paint to make it like a little more bird-like.
PXL_20260215_024211407.jpg PXL_20260215_024156930.jpg

Feb 25: Ironed all the wing edges for additional strength and aerodynamics.

Feb 28: Had a black paint marker in my hand, so decided to add some black-on-black detailing.

Ready for flight!
Build Experience: Very Simple build rating of 1. I added more effort in curving in the nose/beak. It might be an idea to edit the plans to have this a permanent feature in the future. I'd also like to flatten the tail not and have it look more realistic too, so that might be a future version update for this design. From the quick build, it would have taken a little more than an hour. With the detailing and ironing the wing edges, it probably went up to about 3 hours total.

3. EZ Glider (Modified)

Feb 26: Cut out the parts. The plans are from a shrunken down and modified EZ Wonder, and I was hoping to make a water-landing EZ plane this year, but time ran away from me. Compromise-time! Added a step on the bottom of the fuselage and edited the top to have a cockpit effect. This won't do on the water, but we'll see how it fares on snow/ice.

Feb 27: Assembled the plane. Used LePage Extreme glue for this build. Much lighter than hot glue, but requires more time for the parts to set.
PXL_20260227_054427976.jpg PXL_20260227_184230355.MP.jpg

Feb 28: Added the EZ pack. I also added lights from my PowerUp system. I should have added them in before gluing the wing. They were a nightmare to feed through!
PXL_20260228_040329956.MP.jpg PXL_20260228_040327021.MP.jpg

Added some tape for decoration.

Build complete!
Build experience: build rating of 2.5. The extra .5 was purely because of adding the LEDs in the wing cavity.
Normally, this design is a 1 to 1.5 difficulty rating, but with the modifications, I added an extra number. Total build time: Approximately 4 hours.

4. EZ Skilpad

This is such a fun SLOOOOW flier. My original has seen better days, so it's time for a new build.

Feb 7: Cut out the part and do a rush build with hot glue.
PXL_20260207_165625384.jpg PXL_20260207_171945385.jpg PXL_20260207_174209790.jpg PXL_20260207_182858616.MP.jpg PXL_20260207_182855777.jpg

It turned out quite heavy, with me rushing the build and using hot glue.
PXL_20260207_192541800.jpg PXL_20260207_192548766.jpg PXL_20260207_192643677.jpg PXL_20260207_192647143.jpg PXL_20260207_192651779.jpg

I took it for a test flight, but it was too windy to be successful.

Feb 27: I didn't like this plane, so I destroyed it and moved the electronics to the next build, the EZ Glider (#3 on this list, actually). I broke the green LED strip in the process. :(

Feb 28: Printed new plans, and cut the parts out after stripping the paper off the foamboard. Used LePage Extreme Glue again for this build.

You need more patience, tape and random weights when not using hot glue...

Inserted a new EZ Power Pack.
PXL_20260228_205454259.MP.jpg PXL_20260228_205457135.MP.jpg

Done! Added some tape for decorations.
Build-rating: Even though this looks like a simple plane, with keeping it as light as possible and having many different angles for the dihedral and anhedral, coupled with the fact that I don't have a build instruction for it, means that I'm giving this a 3 rating.
From start to finish, this one took about 4 hours to make.

The black version took about half of that.

Build Summary:

I had a successful month with my builds. Not everything that I wanted, but I love the EZ Sparrow (Blackbird), and think that will live for a good few years. The same with the EZ Skilpad. I like my previous version because it had lights, so might need to buy some sometime and add them to this plane.

The Explorer was more difficult than expected, due to it being bigger than I expected, and I didn't have adequate materials on hand to make it properly. If it flies well, then it might be in the cards to get the parts 3D printed and re-made properly. The actual plane goes together nicely, and it was a satisfying build. Heck, if it's a good flyer, I might even splash out at the local hobby store and buy a speed-build kit...

The unsuccessful part was not getting an EZ waterbird made. I think I did make some good steps towards this, so maybe the future will have me fully develop the idea of an EZ plane that can land and take off on water. I know its been tried before, but I haven't seen it successful as of yet.

Maiden Summaries (March 9th):

EZ Skilpad:

Flew awesome. Great maneuverability even in the small space. This is one of the trickier EZ builds, but it's definitely one I always want on hand for lazy day flying. She's ssssssssssooooooooooooooooo slow!
Skilpad (GIF) 25-sec.gif

March 10 Update: Again, flew fantastically outside. So easy to play catch with it. I do see an update in the future though, where I either create a removable nose for the battery, or move the slot to the top.

EZ Sparrow:
Space was too small, but it flies! Already needing a fix in the nose/beak. That's happening now, and she'll be good as new. Fast plane, decently agile.
Sparrow (GIF).gif

March 10 Update:
Flew again outside. For some reason, this version is more squirrely than previous iterations. I might be tempted to remake it, taking my time and use my alternate glue instead of hot glue...

EZ Glider:
Seems to glide nicely, space was also too small to get it to make a turn, but I think it will do well outside. Will need a proper flight outside to see what she's really capable of.
EZGlider (GIF).gif

March 10 Update: I flew her outside, and have decided to scrap her for parts. The turning circle is just too big for an EZ plane. The glides great, but that's the only highlight in my opinion.
EZ Glider, Take 2 (GIF).gif

FT Explorer:
She flew, but not great. Tail-heavy (which was expected), but the bigger problem is that my motor really needs to be replaced. It sound like a lawnmower. I would also like to have this plane slightly smaller, but still use an A-motor, so that might be a fun future project. Also, it future builds, I'll probably remove the paper from the inside of the back of the fuselage to reduce the weight there, and move the servos more forward if possible.
