Hi
Apologies if this is in the wrong place and if there's already a thread for this somewhere but I can't find it.
Have a sketch of a wing I've created in 360 (should be approx 300 mm for half the wing) that i'd like to print (paper copy not laser cutting) preferably using inkscape as its free!
Converted file to dxf ok,was then advised to convert this to an SVg file which I did using
Online DXF Converter
When I try to import /open this in inkscape its barely visible and has been scaled down(looks to be about 100mm ish) and printing a paper copy produces nothing.
What have I done wrong (apart from taking up IT late in life!)
Thanks for any help

There's a great addon for f 360 called "Export to Shaper Origin" It will let you export any flat face as an svg. Just make sure to change it to the "advanced" setting and select faces from the drop down menu. It will produce an svg, which you can import to inkscape. After importing, you'll need to open up the xml editor and under "vector effect" change it from "non-scaling-stroke" to "none". Then you need to set the stroke width for all of the vectors to .256 inches, then set the stroke to black, then set the fill to none. If the face has holes in it, it will be exported as a group with separate vectors for each of them. You need to do the above to all of them for it to work. If you have any questions just ask.

Hi
Managed to install it ,followed your instructions, but when I selected faces wouldn’t let me ,so tried”select entire sketch but would only let me select 1 or 2 edges and couldn’t click ok.
So tried “sketch profiles and was able to click ok and create Svg file.
Opened Inkscape and opened file / xml editor but couldn’t find “ vector effect”
I think I’m useless!
Can you help.
Thanks

You'll have to expand the tree by clicking that right arrow at the top of the editor. You'll find a bunch of different vectors, and those are what the vector effect is under.

OK
Been clicking everything in site but can’t find vector effect.
Feel nearly as useless as the person who went into a mall looking for the App Store

Ok
Thanks, done the width, now not sure how to access stroke to change it to black, and access fill to set it to none.!
Is it the stroke paint and fill menus in the photos below?
Thanks
If you need someone to check any instructions are idiot proof I’m your man!

Or is it just a case of typing “black “and “none “in the stroke and fill boxes?

Normally, you can click to. set the fill and shift click to set the stroke in the little colored boxes at the bottom. The one on the far left, with a red line through it means none. If you want to set it through the xml editor, you'd just put none in the fill slot. The stroke is already black, but if you want to change it, you can do it from the boxes at the bottom (best choice) , the stroke editor if you want more control, or through the xml editor like this:

rgb(red value, green value, blue value)

Of course, you would substitute all the color values with your own numbers, and take away all the spaces. I only recommend doing this if you're debugging or copying another color (there is a color picker though)

I'm your files manager you can right click on the dxf file and say open with. Open it with inkscape. It will say it will have to change a few things then it will open.

Indeed, but where I’m concerned not unusual,it’s as if technology has a 6 th sense.
Presumably you’ve never had problems with curves being chopped off?
Will try another one and report back.
When I opened it a box appeared to which I clicked ok,
Will see if there’s a box there saying do not chop curves!
