Perhaps something like this:

Not a cheap option by any means, but eflite motors are always on the pricier side -- you will get what you pay for, but you will pay more for it.

A cheaper option over at HK (nearly the same weight but only 3/4 the max power, at 1/2 the price):

With either motor you're still looking at a ~40A draw off of a 5-7 cell battery at WOT. big pricey battery to get any flight time. Match the prop to the cell count you intend, and the ESC to the draw.

Glow conversions on that scale aren't cheap . . . but they are cleaner.

I use CF tubes. Usually from arrow shafts (bow and arrow). I cut the sections to length and use longer bolts.

Enough of this horrific topic. You will be stealing this plane's soul if you take away its internal combustion engine. There are times I am tempted to smear glow fuel on my electric planes just to make them fly better. A sad day, truly a sad day. Poor little plane won't even see it coming... It's like taking a dog to the vet to get it neutered.....

Well, if it's a trainer and you're looking for trainer flight characteristics you can run anything around 800-900 watts and spinning a prop around 11,000RPM to match a simple .60 glow. Of course weight and build will effect things but let's assume it's a 6 pound balsa bird.

I've had really good luck with a 900kv 3648 Turnigy but I can't find it. I also have this 3548 Turnigy and a 11.5.5 APC clone prop. I run a Plush 60A ESC but you could use any cheap 60A ESC. A 3000mAh Turnigy 20C LiPo is inexpensive but can't push electrons for punchy flight. Good for lazy days. :)

The 11x5.5 prop spins up nicely and does not load the motor hard. I think it draws under 50A but it has been awhile. The larger issue you'll have is stowing the battery but removing it to charge. If you've already done one you know what I'm talking about.

Good Luck!

rchead7, You lost me in there bud. :)
Check out this picture of how I converted a 1.20 size ARF to 8S electric.
I held the motor in place in the cowl to get the right distance. Then cut square wood dowel to the right length and drilled it down the middle. I then used all thread (10/32 here in the US), lockwashers and nuts to make my own, custom length spacers. That motor is over 3HP, spinning a 17x10 prop and it held fine. :)
