Back when I got mine, you needed to pass a ground school and someone to sign off your flight time then recommend you to an examiner for your practical test.
You have to log 40 hours of in air flight training under the supervision of a CFI, then test, plus ground training with a written test. This is an old thread and I was bored, but thought I would respond for fun.
