Hi Everyone,

I had a few questions about gps trackers but was not sure where to post my question. I know that there is quit a few questions that get posted here. If you were going to have a tracker which brand would you go with ? I came across Ruko R111 or Veeniix V113. They look to be the same unit with a different name. Or is there a brand you like ? The main reason for the tracker so I can find a plane that fly's away. ;)

I did a search but no recent info come up. Everything is older then 2024.

Open to all input,
Al

If you want to track a plane far away, you really need to use radio telemetry. The range on the RemoteID modules is not great. Like as in hundreds of feet. With radio telemetry on say ELRS or another long range protocol, it can be miles.

It sounds like I need to install new protocol in my transmitter. I have a Radiomaster TX 16.

Multi-protocol module TX16 I'm guessing. I have a variety of RXes that I do full telemetry with. I run a mixture of DSMX(no useable telemetry), FrSky and ELRS with full telemetry. Some of the FrSky RXes are compatible with the multiprotocol module, Others use an older FrSky R9 module. ELRS works out of the box on my Radiomaster Pocket, and with a Radiomaster ELRSmodule on my TX16s. If you are going to pick up a new protocol, make it ELRS. Super flexible, inexpensive, and open source,

I have some ELRS RXes that allow a GPS to be attached directly without the need for a Flight Controller.

I actually used the telemetry to find and recover a plane up at Flite Fest this year, even after a crash and the battery had been ejected. The last known coordinates were on my radio, punched them in on Google Maps, and walked right to it.

I have a few varieties of the Matek CRSF-PWM boards that I tested over a year ago. I'm sure by now, there are other variants out now tool. The Matek boards used a funky firmware update for the PWM part of the board, and we spent four months getting them to fix a critical flaw causing flyaways before I ever put one in the air. I need to look to see what other options are out there now.

Hmmm. Looks like Matek still is the only company with such an option.

Others have Vario and other telemetry, but Matek is still the only with GPS support.

The boards are 6-15 bucks, and then you need a CRSF/ELRS receiver to connect to it. They also have an integrated one for $25 that has both the RX and PWM board.

You have to provide the GPS module too.
