Have You Built A Wooden Kit?

If not , I believe you are missing out on a big part of this hobby. There is nothing more gratifying than building the plane you are going to fly. With so many pre built planes today that come with motors, linkages etc. You just take it out of the box basically and fly it. To me that takes a lot of fun out of the equation IMHO.

I have learned many things, by building planes, learning to set up 2 stroke engines, aerodynamics, covering is an art all to itself. I encourage all pilots to buy a kit or scratch build a plane. Keep smilin, keep flying.

Yes I have and have several builds for this winter.

You should try building foam as well. You might be surprised how fun it can be to have something quick and easy to build. Also at how well they fly.

Preaching to the choir on this forum. Check out the resources section with hundreds of FREE plans. There are everything from builds that can be done and flown in a day to planes that can take weeks to build. Foam board is readily available while the vast majority of hobby shops in my area (only 40 miles from AMA headquarters) have abandoned balsa kits and building supplies.
Thus endeth my rant for today.

Yes, my first plane as a kid in the mid 90s. I hated every minute of it and haven't built a balsa kit since 😵‍💫

At this time in my life, i won't be building anymore planes, I have lots to fly, my hangar is full, no need for me to spend any more on R/C gear. I am happy with what i have and fly.

I cannot say the same between my nephew and me we have roughly 127 planes most ( mostly balsa ) ready to fly and some not, FPV quads we are at around 17 and he is getting into helicopters owning 3. We still keep our eyes out for that deal that comes along every once in a while and I am in my 70`s he is in his 40`s.

i built a few in the last century. fun, but i hated covering. still, every now and then i think about it. someone here is converting a wooden glider to electric, and covering with tissue and elmers. that sounds doable
