Kavin, Motor power depends on what you are expecting from the plane.

Average performance is around 100Watts per pound.

Slow flying indoor types can be as low as 70 Watts per pound

Sports models are around 100 - 150 watts per pound

Extreme performance use around 200+ watts per pound

If you have an existing design in mind follow the recommendations, if designing and building your own follow someone else's recommendations for a plane of similar design and weight and you can not go wrong.

Kavin,

Is there a particular plane you have in mind?

I've found that the best method is to see what motor the Flitetest store recommends for the speed build kit of the plane you're interested in, and then find something with similar properties.
