Help with FT pocket radio

So here goes I haven’t got the volantex ranger 600 stunt yet and I kinda feel like I got duped when I ordered it but that’s another story. Anyway I think pnp is plug n play and according to volantex that is no receiver, battery or charger. I have a mini explorer that I bought as a bundle and included the cc2500 and I think you can get a backpack mod for the 2500 but it costs as much as the radio. I bought the ranger to work up to the explorer as it’s a pusher glider with 4 channels probably good practice and if I dig a hole with it oh well. Thanks for the info and advice. I do believe that volantex uses v761 protocol for many of there models from what I can tell. Long story longer I ordered a 4n1 Zorro and I’ll either have a lot more questions or it will solve all my problems.

I don’t think so. I miss spoke and ment to say no radio, battery or charger. I guess a bnf must come with a battery and a pnp means plug in your battery and bind it to your radio and hit the sky.

BNF is bind and fly. these come with a receiver but not a transmitter
PNP does not come with a receiver and you must provide your own and transmitter.
RTF (Ready To Fly) comes with transmitter and receiver.

Batteries are a whole other story.

so for most manufacturers, you plug in the rx and battery, but for volantex, you plug in the battery?

correct.

there may be some other variables and other companies that do bits different though.

if you end up getting the 4n1 you will have the 4 major platforms, along with a very large amount of “proprietary” and less used protocols. the only plane i havent been able to bind to thus far is a Volantex 750mmP51…which uses a really old protocol.

Thanks Captain J for all the info. I now have in my possession a Volantex ranger400 pnp which I thought was going to be a 600 stunt I should have read the fine print before hitting the place order button. So far the RC airplane hobby seems to be one lesson after another. I also got the Zorro 4n1 and would like to use it to fly the ranger. I have 2 3.7v 400mah batteries and one 300mah that will fit under the canopy but it looks like the cockpit/battery bay was intended for a round cell do you happen too know what battery is stock? I think the plug is called mollex. The batteries I currently have are rectangular and could work the 300 mah is slightly smaller and fits better but I don’t mind ordering some round cells if that’s what it calls for.

Give us a picture. That will help us Identify the connector, and we always love to see what everyone else is flyin!

Cheers!

picture of the plug and the round slot in the foam just in front of the wires is where a round cell would go maybe. I’m new to using forums and RC planes so bear with me.

man no problem at all.

“one lesson after another” man thats exactly it. i read a lot, i like understanding how to do things entirely correct, not almost correct…what you are going thru is what i went thru….a lot of half truth info, wrong info, different advice from every person i talk too…

if you end up getting a 4n1 or need radio help let me know…i couldnt find a single video explaining how to bind to volantex, i just had to look at every command on every page until i figured it out 😑

so, i have only run 400 mah, and 2s 550mah is basically all my volantex planes, i am not certain on the round cell. to make sure i understand correctly, the rectangle 400mah does fit?

this is what i run in mine, $15 for 5 batteries and charger…another thing i really like about my 400mm warbird planes, super cheap batteries.

The link is helpful. I’ve been considering ordering those batteries for a couple days and now I think I’ll pull the trigger. Like I said I have the Zorro 4n1 but haven’t had much time to look at it. Mowing the yard taking out the trash etc. I have a hobby zone warbird p-51D 450mm and it is awesome. I’d like to get the umx voodoo it isn’t sold as a RTF but seems to be the difference between a toy grade and hobby grade plane. I’m sure I’ll have questions about the Zorro as soon I have time to look at it. The FT forum has been a lot of help and greatly reduced the head scratching. I appreciate everyone’s input and advice. Hopefully in the future I will answer more questions than ask but right now the curve is pretty steep.
