Hinge question

working on a plane design and came across a question. I noticed that on a lot of these builds the cut out on the elevator is super close to the hinge and usually very weak. On the one I'm designing I just moved the rudder back a little bit and made the cut out a bit bigger and now the elevator is nice and strong with no need for a support. But the hinge in the elevator is a bit further back then the hinge in the elevator. So my question is, Is there any reason the hinge in the rudder has to line up with the hinge in the elevator?

No reason at all they need to line up - lots of designs from the 40 and 50's have offset elevator and rudder hinge lines. Here are links to several designs with that setup - both with the rudder hinge in front of the elevator, and behind it

well, that sure will make things easier. I may start modifying a lot more of these mini builds. thanks for the answer.
