HobbyKing "Spec FPV250 Racing" Mini Quad

@Mustang - your quad looks sweet!

Well I did it. I spent all morning clicking "checkout" and my FPV250 parts are on the way. I picked up the frame and some odds and ends from HK's US warehouse. I bought esc's and a flip 1.5 board from readytoflyquads. and I bought some MT1806 motors from besthobbymall (which I'm a little unsure of). I have some 5x4.5 3 blade props to get me started, but i'm hearing the 6x3's might be better for that motor. I'm certain I will attempt FPV once I can fly this thing.

I'm a little nervous about the flip board, it looks like a lot to setup, I ordered it with the X Quad firmware so we'll see how that goes. I only have a 6 channel radio, I'll have to figure out the best use of the extra 2 channels. I have only one 1000mah 25c 3s lipo, but three 1500mah 3s lipos (which I hope aren't to heavy).

I'll do my best to post up pics of the build or at least the finished project, the motors are on 11-20 day delivery via Switzerland post. they will probably be the last to arrive.

If you use the Swiss Post option from HK International, my orders always get to me well under 2 weeks. I'm extremely impressed with the carrier. Plus their tracking is always current and the location is within 12 hours of what the tracker displays.

Orangesurfer, there are several other outlets that beat HK in final cost. Rctimer is one, (they don't bend you over the rail with shipping) but you'll have to wait about 3 weeks. Also, if you want an awesome FPV camera, that is ONLY for FPV (no DVR capability) securitycam2000.com offers a cam called the PZ0420 that is outstanding for $42 total cost.

Yep. Swiss Post changes everything about HK shipping...but it's not the default option and it's easy to miss in the list. Dirt cheap (even on big heavy things and lipos) and darn quick with great tracking.

I did have one order that ran into customs issues resulting in it sitting in LA for a few weeks, being sent back to HK, repackaged, reshipped and finally delivered a month after I expected it...but the Swiss Post tracking was updating regularly during that time explaining every delay (and even venting about their own frustration getting answers from US customs) and saying that if I was in a hurry that HK had agreed to reship items if I contacted them...but I wasn't in a particular hurry for that order so I just waited it out.

The Swiss Post option just blows me away. It doesn't make any sense. It uses USPS for the final leg - yet when I placed an order with HK and RTFQ days apart shipping from HK was cheaper despite being a bigger package and it arrived sooner despite RTFQ actually getting the package out the door first. Just don't see how first class mail from a US address to a US address can cost more and take longer than having a package shipped from Hong Kong and delivered final leg by the USPS.

So I FINALLY got all my parts in and put this thing together. It needs some wiring clean up but i wanted to get it in the air. So far the setup goes:

HK's FPV 250 frame, Emax 1806 motors with 6x3 props, Multiwii flip 1.5 and 12A ESC's from Ready to fly quads. I have NO experience flying quads. my buddy let me hover his for maybe a total of 2 minutes about a week ago and that made a huge difference when I put mine in the air.

If anyone can offer some insight to the multiwii board please let me know. I haven't been able to get it to connect up to my mac and we are in the process of moving and my PC is in storage I hooked up ch5 &6 to Aux 1 &2 on the board but they don't appear to do anything. Auto level is definitely NOT on and I should probably learn to fly with out it anyway BUT I'm in some limited space and I would like to eliminate as many challenges as possible.

as far as being a noob quad pilot is concerned the flip 1.5 seems to do just fine out of the box I haven't changed a thing, with the exception of a slow yaw left ,it seems dialed in. (can I trim that out on my radio?). I bumped up my expos and decreased my rates in hopes to eliminate some of the snappiness. For now I'm just trying to get it to hold still in front of me hahah... I'll also need to add lights very soon even at a short distance i loose orientation quickly

I see lots of fun ahead!!

FPV pan and tilt kit

Hello,

just starting to built the 250 racing quad.

I want to use the supplied "1 x FPV pan and tilt kit" with my mobius (and not mount the mobius derctly on the quad). Some adaptions will be necessary to fit the mobius on the kit. The surface have to be horiztontal and not 90° to the quad.

But unfortunately I have not enough experience to mount the kit .
The "left right" servo is mounted in the whole of the quad. The pan and tilt kit is then mounted on the servo horn.
But how to include and connect the "up down" servo into the kit?
Has anyone used this kit and the mobius and can share some pictures / hints?

Thank you in advance,
Christian

Wish I saw this on my 100+ dollar order to Hobby King when they ran their sale!
Trust me you did not miss anything. I originally had purchased 5 frames went through 2 just on the bench alone and one during test flight. The frame is definitely crap. If you have a 3d printer I suggest printing helicopter landing skids and printing motor/arm protectors out of tpu. Also the specs say it can handle 3s. Yea forget about it. It can handle 3s only if you intend to fly it via LOS and no FPV equipment. FPV 4s or bigger. It was a fun build as a bounce down memory lane but I don't suggest anyone waste their money on it.

Sounds like it was as bad as the TriFecta Tricopter I got from HobbyKing.
