Are you trying DSMX did you try DSM2 In my first post I did not know you were using FlySky.

I have a friend that just changed over his FySky with a module do not know which one, I wish I could help you out I know at first it took him a while to figure out how to get it to bind with DSMX. I know he had to update his transmitter which it sounds like you did. Did you Google set up for the module you are using are you sure it includes DSMX, DSM2 which is used in all UMX planes.

It's a FrSky, not Flysky... Taranis X9D+ When I scroll through the protocols DSM2 is there and I have the choice of DSM2, DSMX, or LP45. Or I can switch it to multi and it has a whole different DSM section.... all of which I have tried and nothing will bind. I think I'm going to take it down to the hobby store and see if they have a radio that will bind with it so I can at least verify the thing works right.

Sorry hit the LY instead of the R his is FrSky. I do know it took him some fiddling as he was trying to bind to my Lemon DSMX receiver once he figured out his settings it would then bind to any DSMX receiver as we tried a couple of different ones..

Hi everyone, I am knew here so sorry if I get it wrong

I have a Sport Cub S and a DX8e controller, the transmitter setup instructions only list the DX8 which I think is for an older version of the transmitter software?

Anyway my problem is I am not sure how to tell if I have set up the flight mode switch correctly. Is there any way I can confirm I have got this setup correctly? I have used the setup instructions from the very bottom setup option in the instructions because they at least matched the menus that exist on my controller.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

Link to the instructions in my manual and only instructions I can find online...

If safe mode is ON (switch off) then with the TX and plane on, if you wiggle it about and turn it inverted the ailerons will move on their own, that’s SAFE self righting. If you go to position 1 and move the plane right to left on the roll with no controls applied you will see the ailerons move a little on their own, plus if you move them you won’t get full movement. That’s “intermediate” with some stabilisation, next position will give you full control surfacemivement.
You can use the first step to check that you got panic mode set right as well, just activate the switch you set for it and see if it self corrects when you roll the plane.

Thanks FDS, looks like I have it setup correctly.

So just for anyone else who is using a DX8e you do have to use the setup instructions for the DX9, the instructions for the DX7s DX8 must be for a different version on the transmitter software.

Problem with Experienced Mode - Sport Cub S

 Hi - I am admittedly a newbie, and I've had good success flying the Sport Cub S in Beginner Mode.
I have two Sport Cubs...I crashed #1 into a wooden fence and I was unsure if it could be repaired properly, so in addition to buying the necessary parts to fix #1 I also bought #2. Both are BNF and I'm using a Spektrum DX7s. I did get #1 up and running again and it's seems to fly just as it did when it was new.

My problem is with Experienced (and possibly Intermediate) Mode. Whenever I go into either mode it immediately nosedives toward the ground. Today I couldn't switch it back to Beginner Mode quick enough before #2 went nose first into the ground (another motor mount whacked out position). I then switched to Cub #1 and got it up to about 75 feet (in Beginner Mode) to give myself plenty of time to switchback to Beginner Mode. It did the exact same thing - it immediately drops the nose and heads straight for the ground. This time I switched back to Beginner and it quickly leveled out. Both instances happened with the throttle around 50% - 75%.

Any ideas what is going on here?

Old thread I know... but I just started flying with a Sport Cub S and I have to say that intermediate mode has been a bit of a disaster for me as well. Even though everything seems to be trimmed and flying nicely in beginner mode, when switching to intermediate (or expert) mode, the plane seems to have a mind of it's own sometimes and is quite difficult to fly.

Now this could be just because I'm inexperienced, but for those who have flown the Sport Cub S a lot in intermediate/advanced modes specifically, is it harder to fly than larger or heavier planes like the Timber or even the UMX Timber?

You have to re trim it when SAFE is off, I found mine had excessive up elevator when I switched modes, making it stall a lot, especially in turns. I also added nose weight as the CG is better with a touch of nose down.
I put mine on a level surface then plugged it in, initialised it, then switch safe off, set the trim on the elevator, then try it in the field.
Larger planes like the Timber are easier to fly because their wing loading is lighter. Air molecules don’t scale down so a bigger wing always performs better. Plus they have more power and don’t get blown away!

ELECTRICAL PROBLEM?

Hi All -- I'm a new owner of a Sport Cub S. Bought one for my son.

My boy and I were excited to take his new plane (Sport Cub S RTF) for its first flight. Both of us are beginners. We had a fun and cagey 10 minutes or so of flying as we got used to the controls. After the motor pulsed I landed and went to change the battery. I connected a fresh battery but the plane showed no response. Zip. Zero. Dead silence. Tried reconnecting the previous one to see if I could at least get a twitch from the plane with whatever juice was remaining in it but... nothing. I tried another freshly charged battery but still no response.

We had 1 soft crash during our flight early on but we had the plane back flying fine immediately. After I landed it to swap the battery, the electronics were working normally (twitching and making normal servo noises) right up until I disconnected the first battery. Once I connected the fresh battery there were no noises, no responses -- not even a brief initial response then silence. It was like there was no battery connected at all. (I have double checked all the batteries used and confirmed that the fresh ones were fully charged.)

So after only 10 minutes of flying we now have a $200 airplane that for all intents and purposes seems dead.

I've checked the manual for troubleshooting tips but none address my problem.

Any suggestions as to where to look first re: troubleshooting?

It sounds like your battery lead has failed or something in the board has gone wrong. If you bought from any store or online then you should be able to return it as faulty.
One thing you can try is re binding the transmitter to the receiver, it tells you how to do this in the manual, you might need a second pair of hands to plug the plane in.
My sport Cub had a broken motor within the first week, which made it not respond at all to the controls until I did a re bind, then it was fine, eventually the motor wouldn’t turn the prop and a replacement cured the entire problem.
Sorry you had a bad experience, these are great little planes to learn the basics on but they can still be fragile. Mine has more tape than foam in some places and still flies!
If you can’t return it then the electronics are not hugely complicated. They are accessed by splitting the top and bottom of the fuselage, the wings come off with the top half and the main board is behind the motor. You can buy the whole assembly as a spare part, it’s not that cheap at $70. Here it is on Horizon Hobby, other retailers may have stock.
Everything just plugs in, so no soldering is required, the control rods have to be removed and put back then it just needs to be stuck down firmly in the same place as the old one.

Have you found a solution to getting the plane to bind to your 4 in 1? i've got the jumper t16, that basically is just a transmitter with a 4 in 1 module in its bay. and like you i can select dsm2 and dsmx, but cant get the sport cub s to bind up to it

I have bound my Jumper T12 with the same module to my Sport Cub. Make sure Internal module is turned off and external is on and the right protocol set, then set the TX to bind, then turn on the Cub.

Screen shots in order, first two are the setup screen, I couldn’t fit all of it on at once. Then inputs, then mixer, then special functions for the timer. T16 screen will be different but settings should be the same.

Awesome, first confirmation that it will work, thank you. I've got the internal off, external is set to dsm2 with dsmx as the sub ch is 1-6 when I set it to bind it just beeps forever, I also tried it with dsm2 and dsm2, same setting otherwise, only other option under dsm2 was js45 I think, it had 45 at the end of it, I don't have the radio next to me right now, all ended with the same result, I have gotten the radio to bind up with several other models, so it is known working, would you mind posting your settings when you get a chance, would be great to get this thing in the air

See edit with pictures. The TX will keep beeping until you deselect Bind, check the Cub lights inside to see if it bound.

That worked perfectly, thank you very much, found the issue, i was using dsm2 instead of multi before picking dsm, sounds like this is the same issue dsplzion was also having. You were a very big help, i appreciate it

I had such a nightmare setting the Cub up on the T12, there was no info anywhere. Some people here and a week of bloody minded tech combat got it fixed.

I did eventually get it bound to my radio but in order to do it, i had to buy a better module. The one I had didn't seem to actually have DSM at all. As soon as I got the new module I was flying the Cub right away. Thanks for asking.

To be fair to that module the description is pretty clear in stating what protocols it does, the toy ones, not DSMX etc.
Glad you got it fixed in the end.
