Hobbyzone Sport Cub S BNF and RTF owners thread

Anyone know how to get the 3 flight modes to work on a newer Spektrum remote? I have an ix12 and I’m trying to move the Sport Cub S 2 over to from the RTF remote is came with because that remote is pretty beat up after years of use. I was able to get it to use gear for beginner and advanced but intermediate is the mode I’m trying to teach my son in. Thanks in advance!

After flying more than 5/6 or more minutes, this sound begins as cut off. Is it possible that the battery is already low?
I am worried, the plane only has 1 day, it is new

Easiest is to go to your transmitter registration page and look for downloads you should find one for the Cub download it and install it in your transmitter.

I have bound my Jumper T12 with the same module to my Sport Cub. Make sure Internal module is turned off and external is on and the right protocol set, then set the TX to bind, then turn on the Cub.

Screen shots in order, first two are the setup screen, I couldn’t fit all of it on at once. Then inputs, then mixer, then special functions for the timer. T16 screen will be different but settings should be the same.

Here are some details on how I got my Taranis Q X7 with the Jumper JP4IN1-SE bound.

1. Updated the radio with the latest version of OpenTX using OpenTX Companion. Probably not strictly necessary, but it didn't hurt.
2. Updated the JP4IN1 with firmware using Flash Multi. The firmware that worked was multi-stm-opentx-taer-noinv-v1.3.1.49.bin (OpenTX, non-inverted, throttle/aileron/elevator/rudder)
3. Created a new model. Disabled the internal radio and set the external to Mode MULTI, Type DSM, and Subtype X 11ms.
4. Plug in the plane and wait for the lights to blink.
5. Click "Bnd."

I used the screenshots from FDS to set channels and mixes. The ailerons and rudder were backwards, so I inverted them by setting the weight to -100. I used SA for the mode select and inverted it as well so it matches the HobbyZone transmitter from the RTF box I'm used to. I used SH for the panic button, and it worked with no changes.

Telemetry works as well. Just go to page 11 of the model setup menu (Telemetry) and select "Discover new sensors" after the plane is bound. I used that to set a low battery alarm.

Yes, that pulsing noise is exactly the sound it makes when the battery is low. You should get more then 5 minutes out of a battery unless you're just running it full throttle the whole time. If you're flying gently and still only getting 5 minutes, there may be something wrong with the battery or the plane.

Check to make sure the prop spins freely. This guy had an issue with his motor that lead to the battery draining quickly and made a video about the fix:

I got the Sport Cub S2 this week, did the maiden. Used up 2 batteries, no crashes, awesome landings, and even did a bit of expert mode. Did a loop and a very dangerous roll, but thankfully I was high up and the SAVE is awesome.

First thing tho, I wanted to convert it to a bush plane, so i did! with Timber landing gear:

I had to bend it a bit to fit it in, but it does fit without much modification. Removing and installing the new tail wheel is harder tho. You have to be super careful and glue it back with hot glue.

All in all, super pleased, and can't wait to try this in the air. Doesn't seem to have changed the COG

Welcome to the hobby, the sport cub is a great place to start! I like what you did with the timber gear, it looks a lot more like a proper carbon cub now.

Thanks! The plane flies super well. The change from beginner to mid to expert is sooo drastic.
I'm trying to teach myself to control the plane in mid mode, do the same kind of slow calm flying I do in beginner mode. Then i'll switch to exper and try the same to understand how to control it properly.

Pardon me for being lazy and not going through all of the pages but does anyone have the Sport Cub setup for the NX series transmitters?
The searches I tried brought up nothing.

Thanks for the reply but everything I've found so far only covers up through th DX series.
I thought it might be listed under the BNF models on the transmitter but didn't find it there either.
