I saw some of the cool foam board prantdtl wings that @FoamyDM made an saw one that flew really well with little sweep and taper

I was thinking about making it out of foam board but the process to get the wing twist is a bit too much for me so ive decided to make one with my hot wire cutter as my first build using it.

a little bit of cfd i did

it has a wing span of 1m with the root airfoil being a naca 4412 with 8 degrees of twist and the tip airfoil being a naca 0012 with -2 degrees of twist.

at the moment i have the the the templates screwed into the foam block for the left wing and hopefully I can get the whole wing cut out tomorrow.

It is necessary to make elongation of the profile tip on the profile for entering the wire. I made the same mistakes when I started cutting styrofoam wings. You can fix the situation by inserting a long needle from the end into the profile at the level of the tip of the profile, and the heating thread will lie on it before cutting.

well i just made a "small" mistake on my first wing..

accidentally moved the wired under the the wing tip when i was still cutting the wing root

i added some wood plates to the ends of the airfoils so it wouldn't happen again and it would've worked if the wire wasn't so hot. the wire burned a small hole in one of the plates so the wire slight moved under the wing tip so there's a lot of ridges.

im definitely going to have to design some ridge to the leading and trailing edges of the airfoil for future projects as you said.

im not too confident im going to fly with this wing but its still good practice.

1.Before cutting, I set the temperature of the nichrome thread to heat: the cut on the bar must be hairy! 2. The design of my wing cutting machine: it consists of 2 furniture elements (for drawers to fit in) + a nichrome thread between them. I can't take a picture of the electrical unit and the machine itself right now..They're at a cottage in the village. https://www.youtube.com/@kompmen1 -This modeler has a video of the machine and how it cuts the wings.I can't give you the full link- YouTube is blocked in Russia.

Hot wire foam cutting has a pretty severe learning curve. You're going to mess up some blocks getting a starting point with the wire temp, couple more getting a feel of the cut process. Then you have my brother who could fall into a septic tank full of unclaimed gold dust while playing blind mans bluff. Any consolation, I can't seem to be able to hotwire, at all.
