How to attach propeller?

I'm helping my nephew build the Tiny Trader Starter Kit. We have everything assembled and it appears to work properly. One problem… We don't know how to secure the propeller onto the motor shaft.

In the assembly YouTube videos, it looks like he stretches some sort of black elastic brand over the propeller. Also in some of the shots, there is some sort of a screw on nose cap.

The video doesn't talk about how to secure the propeller.

We looked everywhere and cannot find this elastic band or the screw on cap.

Are these items available separately, assuming we lost what was shipped with the motor? Alternatively, what diameter is the motor shaft? Perhaps I can buy some sort of nut to go on the end.

Can you share a pic of your motor? Then I’ll definitely be able to lead you in the right direction! 👍

There are two ways. If you have a prop saver (which is usually used on an unthreaded motorshaft and looks like a ring with two screws oposite each other) you need an O-ring which is pulled over each of the screws from the prop saver. If you have a threaded motorshaft you will first need to select the right prop spacer which is entered between the prop and the motorshaft (usually comes with the prop for various sizes of motorshafts) and then simply tighten the prop with a nut on the motorshaft. Instead of the nut you can also use spinner style nuts (looks a bit better than a plain nut. Typical motorshafts in that size will use something between an m4 and m6 nut.

You are not giving us enough information. What actually ships in the TT starter kit changes from time to time We don't know which one you received.

What you are describing in the video is know as a prop saver. It looks like this

Another type is called a prop collet, it looks like this

I have no idea what the size of your motor shaft is, that is something you will need to measure. The common sizes are 3mm, 3.17mm, 4mm & 5 mm. It is difficult to tell the difference between 3 & 3.17 mm by looking at it, you really need to measure it.

Here are some links to Amazon Prop Saver, Prop Collet
