Fantastic!! Great build!

Thanks, Gremlin. I've refined the front section of the fuse a bit.

After:

The difference is subtle, but it makes the look of the H-1 that much more convincing.

Paint and plans coming soon. Hang in there, folks.

Very nice johnrambozo the paint just makes it look sharp the canopy will really set it off awesome job man

Thanks, man. The canopy is a big part of the look. Gotta add the lettering on the tail, too. Canopy is next. I also revised the plans with the new formers. Just have to update the plans for the wings with smaller ailerons and the shapes for the poster board.

Canopy test fit. I don't think I want to do the stripes on the top glass. I'm going to use the same silver paint over poster board strips. The real H-1 has a pretty beefy canopy frame.

Thanks, man. That's just blue masking tape. I'm going to glue it down with strips of silver poster board. I want to paint the interior a dark color to set it off, too.

I updated the first post with the final paint job. I'm adding a few fun pics comparing. My H-1 is actually scale to the Spitfire fuse length. I say only the fuse length because the H-1 is fully scale with the racing wings, but putting them side by side shows how extreme the proportions are for the FT Spitfire. I'd love to build a scale Spit. What I'd really love to do is take the beautiful nnMig3 and turn it into a Bf209v4.

She looks good man. And im a big fan of scale builds too. But you wanna build a Bf209v4 now that would be a cool build, allways found the vstab funny looking but still a cool plane

Yeah, I suppose the odd little tail was intended to minimize drag to get that top speed goal. I read it was never put into production because it was so hard to fly.

Another plan that really has my interest is the Czech Mate - a modified Yak-11.

Its really a killer plane. There is an Unlimited class R/C plane based on the Czech Mate (same name) that just hit 259mph. I can't find much info outside of facebook but if you look at Horizon Hobby's page, they have pics and video.

Here's a link. Of course you have to be on facebook.

Nevermind. I saved it so you don't have to leave the thread. :)

There's another plane I want to build scale to the H-1. The Chester Jeep. Its half the length and half the wingspan.. a little tiny racing plane from 1933.

Adding a pic of the Chester Jeep. This is a full size replica.

Well, my first flight after painting was very nearly a disaster. The paint added more weight aft of the CG than expected. I launched. The tail dropped and it kind of just looped its way up to about 100 ft, then drifted in the wind, as I struggled to keep control. With about 50% down elevator it was somewhat manageable. It took a full five minutes to work my way back to where I was standing and get it on the ground. Interestingly it was my best landing yet. I moved the CG point forward to the very front-most edge of the thickest part of the wings. I think it will be okay this time. haha. I'm lucky its in one piece.
