I have some experience with the hobby, but this is my 1st post about airplanes

Hi guys and gals. As you see I am new here and a guy can never know too much on their own. So here is the quick story.
I had many years experience with rc boat racing and 600 size helicopters. But that was 15 years ago. Now retired, hence the “old man”
in my login in, I dusted off a couple of planes from that time. I tried to fly with my brother but didn’t do well.
So I joined AMA and a local club in NJ, but it was really the end of the season. So I got and Aeroscout, hey now prop out
front and it has as3x and safe select. So I had some good flights for the last few weeks of the season.
So I decided to get more planes FMs Futura and an Avios Bush Mule. I installed the AR630+ on the 64mm EDF.
I will not be ready to fly that for some time. So back to the Avios already built and with an AR8020T. I said to myself
I am going to crash this on the 1st flight. So I put in an AR8360T. All control surfaces move the way they are supposed to
throttle cut, cargo bay door all mated to my NX8 with the 401A software, also with my special cable downloaded December's
software for the AR8360T. And for the life of me I cannot get passed the first time Gyro setup. It just keeps going back to the first screen.
Even after factory reset. I have a channel for stability control, I have dual rates and expo setup. Aside from the long winded letter and the need for mental help could anyone possibly tell me what I am doing wrong.

I would normally jump in and help with this type of setup, But I do not have any modern Spektrum gear. I have been working with many other stabilizers, but only have an old AR636 that originaly had AS3X but did not have safe. Far from the modern Spektrum RXes by a long shot.

I use a radiomaster TX16s myself, but have a NX8 I can dust off with a spetrum reciever to check it out if this video doesn't help as well

Thank you for taking the time and offering this young fellas delivery on the AS3X and safe mode select video. I have
watched this one before, however I did it again just in case I missed something. However I still can’t make it past the second
First time setup up screen. I cannot advance past it.

I just updated my NX8, but now the battery is dead. I'm charging it now. If you haven't figured it out by the morning i will check back and help as much as i can. Can you take a picture of the screen it's stuck on?

So I set up my Channels, rate, ect. Went into forward programming and did a factory reset. Back into forward programming to 1st time setup. Did level pressed continue, did nose down pressed continue, pressed continue on orientation screen. Pressed apply. Then return to forward programming to set 1st time safe setup. No problems. Make sure you scroll down to the continue button every time, because the back button is automatically selected at first. From there I'm not sure. Hope you figured it out.

This guy does a setup as well. Alot of this you might of done. 19 minutes is where he talks about gyro setup.

Thank you for explaining how you got yours to work. I attached some photos when I could. I have been through the steps that you have so nicely explained. Including the factory reset and after making sure both firmware downloads were from this past December.
After it prompts me through 1st time programming it bouncers me back to the first time setup screen. I have been at it for at least 7-8 hours on and off.

That screen looks a litte strange. See how mine appears. You said you are running 4.01a software. When I did an update on my NX8 last night, my software says 4.02 (located in SYSTEM SETUP, ABOUT/REGULATORY). Maybe try an update if possible just incase your controller has bad software.

This can be so frustrating. Been there. I will be home most the day fixing my 200% Mustang for tomorrow, so just let me know if I can help anymore. Though I haven't been a ton of help yet.

Thanks, I am going to get on the nx8 internal wifi and see if I can get the latest version. Maybe it did not complete last time.

Ok, so after a couple of dozen tries I was able to download the latest firmware 4.02 and the information on the screen represent
the completion. And after rebooting the radio and rebinding the receiver, I still cannot get passed that initial 1st gyro setup.
So back to the drawing board with making sure and triple checking the latest firmware for the AR8360 T which is only
a few weeks old from Horizon and my AR630+ which I got in 2024. It is something I am doing or not doing correctly.
But with your help at least I had some progress.

Sorry it still hasn't worked out yet. If you can, you might head to your local rc field. I'm sure being Sunday there will be some guys out there (weather permitting where your at), and alot of us in this hobby are more than happy to help. They might be able to quickly figure out if it is the controller or the controllee. It's gonna be a chilly 60° here 😃, so I will out flying myself.
