IL-2M3 Sturmovik Build Log

I am new to the FT forum and it looks like a good family to join in with. I started scratch building just over 4 years ago and actually flying too. Awesome hobby to get into. I have over the course of the years learned 3D software and have started designing some of my own planes. This is the start of the IL-2M3 Sturmovik warbird.

Love seeing people model the less common warbirds!

Welcome to the forums! :D
Thanks,

I have a few old guys already that I designed, this some of them, F7F Grumman Tigercat which is patiently waiting for the maiden. Before that there is the Argentine Pucara, Antonov AN-2 Bi-plane, large A-10 twin pusher and a P-38 before any 3D software. There are others also.

I will work on the flying part first, sometimes they are bombs all by themselves :D
Which...isn't entirely out of scale. IIRC the first revisions of the IL-2 flew like bricks and crashed often as well.

There's a video of a perfectly airworthy IL-2, although it's using an American Allison 1710 engine instead of the original. Def worth a watch, she's a gorgeous bird in her own right and Im' glad there's an airworthy example or two left.

Might even help with your build since it's crystal clear HD and fairly close-up shots.

I have fond memories of Rhino but these days I'm running Onshape Cloud CAD - designed by the original Solidworks creator it's like Rhino and SW merged in all the good ways!

I am keen to do a biplane at some point!

I had tried some of the free ones and just couldn't get anywhere with them and then when I started using Rhino things happened. I am somewhat self taught on it so things go slow .

The AN-2 is my only bi-plane and it turned out really good and is a great flyer even in the wind. I picked it to design because of how the wings are attached to the fuse, much more simple then some are.

Thanks, there is some nice pictures in there and clear. It gives me a better look at the turret , see if I can 3D print those

Please post more on that F7F. The photo you posted is kinda blurry and I really want to see more.

Also please post video of the maiden on that one.

Please... :)
Here are a few more pictures of the Tigercat. It was a little bit of a challenge to build because the fuse is so narrow and for decent flight times I wanted to run two 2200 3S batteries in it, the batteries are inline with each other and the first is buried into the nose with the second one directly behind it. Plus the wing is built into the inner structure before the two side fuse panels are installed,

Just to let you people know that if you are interested in any of my plans just ask. Mine are from professional so no swearing allowed. I don't have any build instructions but I do take build photos as I go along and can always help you out that way. Could even start a thread on it and post that way.
