So I have this friend at my school I started getting into RC, and he is actually going in. He has flown some of those cheap amazon RTF planes, but, he won't listen to me about getting a good trainer or that those tiny airplanes don't make him ready for jets (he legit thinks he could fly my F-22 even), but when I try to explain all the stuff to him, he just says "trust me man, I got this" but like, I know I'm not super expirienced (been flying for little more than 2 years) but I don't want him to go through all the stuff that made my RC life harder in the beginning (like getting the wrong trainers and ending up buying 5 planes until tehre was one I could actually learn on or cutting corners turning out to be too expensive) but I can't get him to actually listen to me.

Had kind of the same issue with my buddy. I have two transmitters (I'm lucky to have this option), so i got him up in my Turbo Timber Evolution in trainer mode to show him the difference of flying that compared to the amazon style RTF planes. He found out real quick there is a big difference between the two. He then started with an Aero Scout, which is a good beginners plane (there other good ones out there too). He has also built a few different flite test planes with me to as well. He has just recently got his first edf (twin 64mm A-10) and loves it. I am a huge fan of the trainer mode between transmitters to teach others how to fly, but know that not everyone has that option. Maybe build a FT plane with him( not too expensive when he crashes it), and have him try it out to see the difference. I'm a fan of the full size Explorer with a pusher motor to protect the motor/prop.

Go to Amazon and show how many t-shirts say Build, Fly, Crash, Repeat. Then say, I could probably have them custom make a Build, Crash, Repeat shirt if you want one!! LOL

Actually, have him go at it with a Flite Test Plane. Go with the Mini-Mustang, F engine 3S 850 battery. 3/4- full Throttle take off. Big open space and video tape the maiden!! If he can keep it in the air 2 circles around buy him a soda. Fly the whole battery a burger. Capture it on video and the memory will last a long, long time. I don't think you'll have to buy him anything. Mustang has free plans and only takes one piece of dollar tree foam board to make!!! Plus it flies fantastic fast! My one son was the same way... crashed a little at the start, but still likes fast planes flying low the best!
