IMAX B6 question about the input

Hi there!

I've got a question about the IMAX B6 charger, but first I'll say that I won't get the B6AC version, because it is not in the European warehouse on HobbyKing.

The thing is, I have a question about a power supply. I know it has to deliver 5 amps, and be between 12 and 18 volts. The thing is, I don't know how large the input on the B6 is. What size is it? In millimeters please.

The charger can deliver 5A so probably you want a power supply that supply more that 5A.

From other sources looks like it's probably a barrel connector with a +ve center pin but as to size it is hard to say. HobbyKing is no help and neither is the manual. There's a "suggestion box" feature on the HK page so I would not it there so they can improve their listing.

Almost certainly it will come with a power lead with crocodile clips which you can use to attach it to a car battery.

I'll see what I can do about finding out the size, maybe if someone who has the charger that can tell me.
The thing with a car battery... I don't have a car, as I am 14 years old. I don't want to lend a car every time I want to charge a battery , though on the field it will prove good.

says -ve 5.5mm outer, +ve 2.5mm inner

Various of the questions and reviews indicate it works with a IMAX B6 charger so assuming all the copies use the same socket I think that's the size you are looking for.

It seems most people find the 12v 5A PSU sufficient so probably it is all you need.

A (very) local warehouse has a 5 amp 12v power supply that fits these dimensions, so I'll get one of those.

When I got my B6 I just went through my box of discarded power supplies until I found one that had a plug that fitted and was of 12v output. It was IIRC only 2 amps but it works well, I only charged at 1 amp though.

I have now converted a PC power supply ant that can supply upto 35 amps @ 12 volts, I still use the smaller one at times though.
