Help! IMAX rc BS6 reliability

Hi All,

I am new to the RC hobby but I am bit anxious to start because of Lipo batteries as they need to handle carefully otherwise they may cause serious problem like burning.

To start with I want to purchase IMAX rc bs6 charger to charge the battery safely.

I want to know - is it always necessary to keep the eye on battery while it is charging ?
Does this charger cut-off the charging once the battery is fully charged ?
it is not possible for me to always be around the battery while it is charging , can I just reply on charger assuming that it won’t overcharge the battery and won’t cause a fire by keeping it unattended for sometime ?
Interested to know how you guys doing this.

Thanks

You really should always attend your charger. and Charge your batteries in a Fire safe bag, or fireproof container. In the rare event the battery hits a run-away condition and catches fire, you want to be right there to place it in a safer space. (outside, and oven etc).

Yes, the b6 will stop changing when the battery is full. Provided you selected the correct battery.

Regarding battery fires. Most occur because you selected the wrong battery. Example, you told the charger it was a 4S battery but it was really a 3S.

bs6 is a great charger, depending on your needs. i have read that there are counterfeits out there, idk.
mine is 4 years old and works well. i'm pretty sure it warns you if you have the wrong setting, but maybe not if you set the charging rate too high.
if you can't be in the same area as the charger, can you charge it outside, away from flammable objects?

I think it’s a good suggestion.. I am planning to do the same to charge it outside.even I am planning to do some sort of automation in which I will be charging battery into metal container, planning to put temperature and smoke sensors into it. Once temperature exceeds the threshold my raspberry Pi or Arduino will cut off the power supply of charger and send me sms notification. Just want to be bit more careful 😬

That sounds really interesting! If you could publish those plans here I'm sure many would enjoy having them.
