Is there a point where it's more cost effective to switch to gas/nitro over electric?

Just think if the LiPo/brushless motor had not been invented we would not have the multi copters problem now!
In practise there are some things that can only be done with "electric".

I'd like to throw my two cents in, most of my planes are electric they are great. I have recently purchased a hanger 9 twist 40 and a evolution 10gx gas 2-stroke. Break in is now done so to go to the field I need my two bucks of gas and starter stick, plane and tx. Flew the other day for about an hour on 1 1/2 tanks of fuel( would have flown more but kids wanted to go home) if that would have been one of my electrics I would have run out of batteries long before the hour was up. Really if you want to fly that long on electric you need lots and lots of batteries. Thanks
