Just a thread all about 3D/Aerobatic Rc Planes

Like I have said before, it's 25 % plane and 75% pilot skill.

Long time ago, flyers had 4 categories, (standard, intermediate, expert, masters). Most flyers were in standard and the rest moved up and ended in either the intermediate and expert class. It was only a few that make masters that can do any maneuver, fly in all types of weather, and handle all kinds of planes. It really ends up either you do it or you don't.
That's true👍Though I would say with a easier plane it makes it more like 50-50 because a harder planes is going to be harder no matter the skill level..Though no plane is going to make up for a bad pilot 👍

with anything in life, where some people rise to the top, i always feel it is a combination of innate ability and hard work.

Ain't really no such thing as a harder to fly airplane. More sensitive to control inputs, yes. Positively or negatively unstable, yes. It is harder to fly because you haven't figured out your responses or able to predict control movements beforehand , or it needs control response all the time. Nasa built a computer controlled unstable airplane that was incredibly stable as long as the computer was running. As illustrated yesterday in L Edges video, got a plane flying backwards on just reverse thrust which means the controls work backwards. Whole lot of practice to do that. I cant, and probably never will. Or someone is really good at computer editing.

How I think of it is: If a airplane easily slips into a maneuver and pulls out well, then its easier to fly....A airplane that flops around and is hard to pull out smoothly is harder to fly...

Great! Is designing one that flies good difficult? Also, I know this has been touched on earlier in this thread, but Edge vs extra? The extra looks way better, but...

Anyone ever flown the 13th squadron MXS?

I feel like the Extra is easier to fly, but maybe cut the control surfaces out bigger if you want to do crazy acro👍

The extra that I designed flew very well. It had a wide CG range depending on how you want to fly it. I personally never had much success with the Edge, but that’s probably just me.

Surprisingly its actually not that bad! I suggest following @Mr Man's designing series for your first design though👍

Me either...I mean it flew, but it felt more slippery and less floaty..

Thanks for all the help! My buddy has the edge, and he's not amazed by it either. Is designing a 3d plane more difficult than designing a normal one like this one? (one of me own designs)⬇️
