FT has a decent selection of "scale" aircraft kits but they are most notably of the warbird variety. I would like to see a "historic series" of scale kits.
The idea being based on aircraft which provided aviation firsts or were otherwise somehow historicly significant. Perhaps with aircraft suggested by the FT community (with a reason why it qualifies) and then put to a vote to choose the most significant.
Some prime examples would be:
Wright flyer (first successful powered aircraft)
bleriot VII (first "conventional" layout monoplane, also first with elevons)
Junkers J1 (first all metal aircraft design)
Bell X-1 (sound barrier)
NASA M2-F1 (first powered lifting body design)
I actually have an idea for a scale Wright flyer, involving carbon/glass fiber rods, fishing line and foamboard that has been percolating at the back of my mind for a while. However I am moving to a new country in a months time so I have no idea when or even if i will ever get around to attempting a build, or even the legalities of flying model aircraft where I'm headed.
