I went to the audible link and it sure looks like if you download the free book that it sets you up for a monthly recurring subscription after the free download. Am I wrong about this?

Probably not. It's a way for Audible to generate interest in the service. It sometimes seems a little shady, like the "free" trial offers that sign you up for a monthly or yearly subscription that is usually harder than finding hens teeth to cancel. Some sites are really straightforward about cancelling though, and I'd like to think Audible would be one of the more reputable sites that would be in that latter grouping.
